F10 535d engine top cover removal
Does anyone know how to accomplish the above?
There are no visible fasteners, which leaves me presuming that it should simply pull off. Had a try at that whilst gently rocking it from side to side and back to front, but, although there's a good bit of movement, it doesn't want to shift. Maybe I'm not pulling hard enough, but I'm afraid to force it in case there's a hidden attachment. Any suggestions welcome - thanks. |

On the N55 (535i), it just pulls off. One side has a catch, the other a "hinge" of sorts. Look down underneath and see if you can figure out where they all are.
But don't be afraid to give a good yank. |

I just pulled mine off tonight. There are two ball joints in the front and two hooks in the back. Just pull up on the front.
Not sure if the other engine is the same but.... |

Thanks everyone. As it happened I went back out to the car shortly after I'd posted my question and pulled a bit harder - job done.
Only problem is that you can't be totally sure that it's fully and correctly refitted as there's no latch or anything like a positive click to reassure you that the air filter box is completely sealed. I had a good look underneath with the aid of a mirror and it looks pretty even all round, so I guess that's as good as it gets. |

Sorry, too late, I've refitted it. However, the procedure wouldn't be helped by pictures - you simply pull it off. I just wish the refitting was a bit more positive as you can't be 100% sure that it's completely reseated on the seal.
