I'm guessing (hoping) the 2013 5 series mirrors the updates for the X6. Power upgrade with the M Performance Package.

from the official BMW press release reported on the x site:

http://www.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=640153

The new M Performance Package
As an additional option, the M Performance Package is available in the US. This attractive equipment package is not just cosmetic. It includes an engine upgrade of +15hp and +30 lb-ft of torque on the X6 xDrive35i giving it 315 hp and 330 lb-ft. The increase is +40 hp +30 lb-ft of torque on the X6 xDrive50i for total peak output of 440 hp and 480 lb-ft. In addition, the M Performance Package includes 20-inch light alloy wheels, black chrome exhaust tips, stainless steel pedals, M foot rest and door sills, shadowline exterior trim, anthracite headliner, and optional Carbon Black metallic paint.

Bumping this thread....

I feel like dealers should be getting information regarding the 2013 cars soon since the M5 order guides are already out. I was planning on ordering my car sometime in May but if the 2013 cars are indeed going to have enhancements I am going to have to wait a little longer. The biggest possibility is the use of the N55HP motor with more power and possible interior electronic changes.

We should hear soon. I wonder if order guides came in already. My friend who works at a dealer might know...

Well my dealer just confirmed with me that July build F10's will be 2013. Just no details about them yet.

I was originally going to place my order this month but looks like i have to hold off for another month now.

Some of the July part changes for the 2013 F10

Just because the part has changed does not mean the driver will be aware it is any different from the previous part.

- New Windshield
- New Light/Rain Sensor
- New CIC ( Idrive Control computer)
- New Idrive screen
- New DVD Changer
- about 5 Control units are being changed
- M5 DSC unit is changing (probably to allow Carbon Cermic Brake option)
- M5 gets B&O sound option ( May be a option on regular 5 aswell ??)

No info yet.

The 535i has the exact same engine as the 640i GC since March 2012 production except for the turbo charger
So it will be a easy change if they want to change it.

Thanks for the update, E90Fleet!
My F11 will be MY2013 so I am hooked on this topic.

I am wondering whether the highlighted changes are noticeable for the consumer or not, i.e., new/quicker interface, better screen resolution, etc.

The screen may just be a fix to the owner complaints about scratching easily

We have to wait and see

Rumor has it as that there will be a change in body electronics (mentioned in the BMW Canada bulletin) as well as a change in engine to an updated version of the N63 with valvetronic (internet conjecture).

Body electronics means a likely update to the iDrive (touchpad input seems to be the consensus here).
There can't be a touch screen. The driver doesn't sit close enough to the screen to be able to touch it. They would have to redesign the interior to switch to a touch screen.

^^ I think he meant touch pad on the idrive knob. There were spy pics of the next gen X5 having some sorta touch pad on top of the idrive knob.

An iDrive knob with touch pad capabilities would be cool. However, that would require some mouse-like cursor in the screen, right? Seems like a very big change for the typical incremental evolution that they normally do year-over-year within the same model.

Having said that, I hope they don't introduce a touch screen with the current interior. I am perfectly happy with the current position and the size of that huge screen. As someone already said, changing it into a touch screen would require a complete redesign of the interior so it is more or less obvious that they won't bring it for MY2013. I would bet on a better resolution/contrast or better scratch/smudge resistance…

No worries. Pretty certain bmw isn't changing the look of the interior/idrive at all.

I don't see bmw going touch screen ever. It would be cool if they made the idrive knob being able to draw letters/numbers or accept double taps as 'ok" etc... I don't expect anything crazy to change on the 2013 MY. I am just hoping for a nice power bump for both the 535 and 550 along with possibly new color combinations.

Just came across this thread, and it explains why my dealer cannot get my order in for my new 530 , that I placed a week ago

He emailed this morning the following :

"Unfortunately, I am unable to give you a delivery date at this time. It looks as if there is going to be a specification update in the near future and BMW will not accept the order until it is released. I will keep you informed of any updates to the order process.
