Your First Cars ...
For a bit of fun ... what was your first car?
I noticed one guy on another thread said that the F10 is his first car, which left me thinking about what effect this would have on your impressions of any subsequent vehicle owned. Quite a lot to live up to, if a brand new BMW 5-er is your first experience. A bit like having Cindy Crawford as your ... Anyways, on topic ... my first car was a light blue Ford Orion, 1.6 Biscayne special edition. First registered on 1st September 1987 by my dad and found it's way to me in August 1994, in immaculate condition and relatively low mileage - about 40k miles if I remember rightly. I had the car for less than one year, due to some "bad luck" mainly, when someone trashed the side of the car in a car park. Look forward to hearing your first car .... cheers |

As much as I hated it, I was at a motor museum a few months ago and saw one of these (it was the one Princess Diana drove) and it did make me feel all nostalgic. |

A 1962 Ford Consul - light blue. Bought it for $100, drove for a year and sold it for $150 - just enough for a candyapple red Yamaha 100 twin-jet motorcycle. Ah, to be young, broke, stupid and full of piss and vinegar again!

1968 Oldsmobile Toronado, could seat about 8 teenagers in it, those were the days, about 1988. It had a 455 big block engine with a "turbo hydromatic transmission". It was also one of the first front wheel drive American cars like that and smoke would just pour out of the front wheel wells when you laid on that big engine.
Would look like this:

My first brand new car was a 1973 Toyota Corolla SR5. That thing cost me $3,100 all in including vinyl roof, undercoating and radio. Jeez, imagine getting a new F10 for $3,100.

I bought mine used in '82 for around $700 with over 70k miles on it - and no radio. Kept it for 4 years and gave it away to a friend's kid. Except for the brake pads/rotors and tires, I didn't put in another penny to take maintain it. It eventually did have a few small holes in the floor, but the kid didn't care. He himself had it for another 2 years I believe.

A 1983 Ford Fiesta 'St Moritz' bought in 87
I think it was a run-out version of the Mk 1, it had a fancy interior and lots of extras compared to the usual Ford offerings of the time.

1981 Ford Escort mk2 1300 sport in terracotta with a black vinyl roof and the mandatory four ciebe spotlights. Couldn't afford or get insurance on an RS2000 so this was next best, a true boy-racer at heart.....

One of these. In brilliant white and with all the trimmings as per the picture. 800cc, 3 cylinder SOHC, forty something BHP, top speed mid 80s mph, A/C and could seat 5 big chaps. I was so happy in one of those... *Sigh*
