Battery question for 520i.
Hi,
I am almost going to replace the battery. What is the minimum AH rating for this car? It has active steering and active suspension. What is the recommended battery brand? |

I'd (in fact, did) get the 105ah battery. From my experience, the dealer isn't significantly more expensive than a parts store. Their price also includes the registration & any necessary coding.

If you have active steering…dont’ you have more than one battery?
If you use one of the online part database sites (enter the last 7 digits of your VIN)…and go to VEHICLE ELECTRICAL (or use the search feature and type battery)…you will see the batteries BMW used for your model. ‘ If you’re not familiar with any online part database sites…here’s one…click the link below to go to the diagram and part number index for the main batteries BMW used for the 520i: And here’s the auxiliary battery that is used if you have the active integral steering option:

Yes...you can use other brand name AGM 105AH batteries. You just need to stay with the "type"...which in your case is AGM. If you were to install a regular wet (lead/acid) battery that was 105 AH...you would need to recode your car to inform the charging system that you've switched from AGM to regular lead/acid.
