Painting Calipers need opinions

Guys have an imperial blue metallic with black leather. Painting the calipers next weekend, the question is what color? I have narrowed it down to either the same color of the car imperial blue metallic or estoril blue metallic using the g2 system. What are your thoughts.

I would just use the G2 Black. You don't have to worry about it matching the car color that way. Black is a clean look!

I hear ya JN but I want some of that pop, I can match the car with the same paint but not sure they will stand out enough with the imperial Blue the estoril blue is lighter and should look more like the M5 and pop more. Just looking for ideas.

Curious as to how you are prepping and what type of paint.

As for color I would also say black or possibly silver (would look great with blue)

Not sure waiting on the kit to come, It comes with a degreaser and full instuctions then I will tape it all off I went with the metalic blue will see how it goes. Wanted to come as close to the M5 calipers as I could as I love that look.

Take your car to the car wash and power wash the wheels/brakes to remove brake dust. Also, I would remove the calipers. Not completely off the car, but away from the rotors to do a cleaner prep/paint job.

Remember, how long the paint stays on it based on how well you prep the surface. After you activate the paint, you have less than 5hrs to apply all 4 corners. Make sure all calipers all completely prepped and dried before mixing the hardener. Good luck and keep us posted.

If painting calipers, I would recommend doing a color that shows contrast against the car since its an accent item. If your car is imperial blue, then would paint them brembo red or even lambo orange. Estoril will stand out, but think it needs more pop IMHO. Also, it depends on our wheel design.

Ive used the G2 caliper kits in the past, very good quality. Its brush on so you dont need to remove calipers or even mask off anything.

Please don't especially if ur new to owning a BMW, not being a douche but, if something goes wrong with your brakes, BMW will insist its because you painted the calipers, thus voiding anything related to the brake, wheel warranty.

The dealership doesn't just turn you away for "all" brake issues if you painted your caliper, but it depends on the issue. If your brakes are squeaking b/c you got paint on your pads, then that doesn't make sense for the dealership to honor the warranty. If your ABS is not working because you got paint on the sensor (example) then you're on your own.

The likelihood of caliper paint causing issues is very slim.

Painting protects the calipers from rust and brake dust. Keep the color tasteful, and you'll be happy you made the investment.

You are Right in a Sense,
the reason why i strongly advise against painting it is because i read this thread on a Painted Calipers on a M3

I used the standard G2 blue paint on my calipers. Just didn't look right. I ended up painting them black with G2 paint. Even the OEM rear blue ones on the M5 just don't work on a $100K car. I ended up painting them black with G2 paint and that fits much better.

Here is a link I posted on the subject in July of last year on Bimmerfest;

Chuck: Thanks for sharing. Did you remove your caliper clips and paint it separately? I'm thinking painting the caliper black with the G2 and spray the clips silver for an OEM look. However, the new 6 series GC have all black painted calipers which look good as well.

That's crap. I would never buy another car from them. Seems like they were riding the time until his warranty expired. Since he bought the car used from another dealer with the calipers already painted, they are even less inclined to help.

Be extremely nice to your SAs and service where you bought your car. They need your business.

Chuck intrested in how you taped it off also, I went with the custom Blue and am just wating for it to warm up in NY so I can give it a shot. I see what your saying but on my Imperail blue metalic I think I am going to love the contrast. I personally love how the M5 looks with the blue breaks

I taped off the rotors and didn't remove any clips. The paint is very thick and doesn't drip. It is very easy to brush on. When you're done, you cannot see any brush marks.

If you continue reading you will see that BMWNA denied his brake warranty.

Being extremely nice to your SA is a nice idea definitely worth a try, but they are only like 1% overall of them in the USA.

Lets face it, not all people are the same :P

Very nice, you did a great job. I look forward to applying black G2 on my F02. The black calipers and aluminum wheels will contrast nicely. You would think BMW makes rust proof calipers for how much we paid for our cars.

I painted my calipers and have no problems with my SA. He's super awesome, he gave me a new iDrive screen cause mine was flickering. I showed him a video on my phone, but the foreman couldn't reproduce it, and he still changed it for me. No more flickering for me! It all depends where you go, it's also nice to bring something too!

I agree. When the calipers were OEM rust colored I would notice them all the time. With them painted black, you don't notice them at all.

Agreed, black is the way BMW should've done it. I plan on using a Dremel brush bit to remove all the rust before prepping for paint. I don't have a lift, so I will have to do the fronts then the rears. The G2 dries up in 4hrs so there should be plenty of time.
