550i Resonator Delete w/factory mufflers

I'll caveat this video by saying this is inside my garage.

Had my local muffler shop cut out the resonators before I decide what route I want to go with for the exhaust. I have no intention of doing an "off the shelf" full exhaust, likely a custom setup anyway so this is just the start.

Cold start

I died a little inside with revving the car right after starting it.

However it sounds pretty good ! Open the valves, might get a bit louder

Sounds great! Was there any drone at like 1.5/2k RPM while cruising at freeway speeds?

Also did you remove all of the resonators (I think there are 3, right?)?

Lastly how much did this cost you?

it was $150 at my local muffler shop.

No drone at all, car sounds the same in cabin except when I get on it, has a great rumble now.

m5 comp package exhaust here.

i kept my oem resonators (in hindsight i should have replaced them with the m5 comp pack ones) however with the valves open it sounds great, and with them closed in comfort mode, you hardly notice it.

i got an exhaust meister to control the valves manually, so when wife/kids are in the car its not too loud.

This video was taken after the car was warmed up (as you already heard the coldstart above)

Great to hear!

Alright so let's say I wanted to do the same thing tomorrow at my local shop. What do I say? Delete all 3 of my resonators?

I'm new to this if you can't tell

There's only 2 resonators, one for each side of your exhaust and they are a pair, welded together.
Just go down to your local muffler shop and tell them you'd like to have your resonators removed and replaced with straight pipes. They know exactly what to do, 30 minutes job.

I just had my shop install the supremo in all black. Kept resonator and sounds nice. No drone. And the 4" tips fill in the gaps perfectly. And for cost can't go wrong. I'll post some pics soon and a sound clip. The cold starts are just intoxicating

Check out my DIY thread on this. Has sound clips.

http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1282830

The set up does drone ever so slightly at 1800 RPM. Its a 128Hz resonance so I'm going to try to see if a Helmholtz resonator will help. Its annoying in 8th gear on the highway... either flip it to 7th or drive 90mph!

Everywhere else, good sound, burble, and crack with a shriek at WOT in tunnels. I would say its 15% louder than a stock AMG 63 exhaust.

ETA: since the DIY, I've gone with a M5 diffuser. So I had to hack up the design a bit more. If there's more guys who want the M5 route, I'll update the CAD file and the DIY. The M5 is MUCH nicer... should have done that from the beginning because I had to hack up the Megan hangers first time.
