Soft-closing doors

How much of a beating can they take? I visited the Merc dealer and saw an s550 and the soft-closing doors were very poor and weak so I was wondering how it would be for the f10.

They are invincible in this version. You can slam 'em and they won't even skip a beat.

Previous versions would stop the door from shutting even if it was slammed; that out a lot of strain in the mechanism. With the current version if the door is closed with enough force it will close without affecting the mechanism.

My kids insist on closing the door when they get in the car and SCA us a god send as they never quite pull the door hard enough.

I've had a 550i for two years with the soft close doors. No issues here. And some member of my family do slam them.

3 and 8 year old tested and fine so far- they slam them, push them and I frequently nudge them closed. But every other car we are in they never shut the doors completely spoiled by the self close doors.

Wasn't in my top 10 needs but one of my favs after having them

They weren't an option for the 2012 535I so I had to retro install them. Actually, itschase (Chase) spent a full day doing it. I love them. Like HUD and active cruise control, once you have them you need them. And a side note, they are a $600 option on the 2013. They were over $1250 to install. If I had paid labor, besides dinner and beer, it would have topped $2000 easy.

Some people do slam doors on my car, but no problems so far. The technology definitely improved!

Yeah, it took me several weeks to stop closing them hard.
