Then you are certainly safe, with week 37. As long a your car is technically produced in September per the bulletin then you will have no worries.

For some, like mines, your paper work may say 6vc but you may not get it.

There is so much conflicting information here. One dealer says one thing. Another dealer says another thing. One BMW contact says one thing only to be contradicted by another. Meanwhile, people are getting worked up especially when "the new truth" of the day declares the latest "safe week". The only consistent piece that BMW dealer memos and conversations seem say is that if your car is being produced in September, you'll get the combox.

A BMW product planning bulletin found somewhere on this forum dated July 9 says "product changes starting with September 2010 production". It goes on to describe model specific changes and the new ConnectedDrive features.

A July 16 dealer product bulletin released by BMW to Canadian dealers says "as of September production, a host if new connectivity and entertainment features will come standard on many BMW models including the MY2011 5 series". This blurb came under the section "BMW ConnectedDrive Innovations: Advanced On-board Use of Mobile Phones and Music Players.

So unless BMW has a habit of laying out it's new production season plans only to flip them around 4 weeks later, I think it's important to confirm whether your dealer's system lists your order as production month "9".

September seems to be the key here. But, I am only stating what I have personally seen in print from both BMW USA and BMW Canada. My personal experience, and it seems that others might concur, is that the dealer's are not always paying attention to the level of minutia that we buyers and fanatics do. They can't possibly be in the know about every code on every model. Many people on this forum have been the source if info to their dealer.

So my point here is let's all take a deep breath and start by verifying whether your car is a September build.

My car is a week 36 build that BMW HQ says is showing a status of in production. Yet they also say I have a sept build. So just maybe they are starting September builds early but they will have September features?

Soon Ex - you bring up valid points, there is a lot of confusion all arround. Key in my mind however is moving from a "maybe" or "should" category to a "for sure" for having this Combox. I think what it boils down to is the disconect between BMWNA and the engineers at Dingolfing. Because the combox is a physically new component, it most likely requires a revised wiring harness and new computer programming as well.

As you state, everything BMW has printed points to September. But does that mean the first week in September, or if they can get it done by the last week in September, would that quailify? That's why based on the additional information that others had provided, I had my car moved to week 37. No guarantee with this week as well, but based on the information that others are providing, I feel my chances are much improved. I am hopeful that one of us will get some form of confirmation that the combox is on their car within the next week or so.

Yes, you raise good points as well. The new ComBox is an important feature for those who in part choose their BMW because of the technology. BMW has not done a good job communicating the facts. Let's all keep sharing information and where possible, dealer bulletins that provide some written evidence.

What is good about this info is the detail about week 35, which ends September 3. This to me seems to support the US and Canadian bulletins that talk about September production.

Thanks for sharing this!

Dammit! Been away on a business trip and am just catching up on this thread... I wonder if this issue (if it is a real one) extends to other models. My M3 is week 36 production and is scheduled to be completed Sept 6th. I specifically waited for Sept production to get the enhanced bluetooth goodies and the combox capabilities. I'll touch base with BMWNA and my dealer tomorrow but should my car show up without the updates I will refuse delivery.

Let us know

what you find out. Safer bet for now might be to have your dealer re-schedule your car to week 37 production. General consensus is that combox will most likely be assured for that week, although it could be on week 35 on.

None of know for sure.

General consensus = "in the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king". We are all guessing with limited info or wishful thinking!

Dealer in the UK seams confident week 37 has the com box. We have a print out now that says the combox is in the build.

The original bulletin we saw said 35, initially the dealer said they had spoken to BMW and told them the car must have com box, at that point they were saying week 36 production. However production has now moved to week 37!
I guess we will find out early October :-)

I have a print out for week 36 production that has the combox in the build as well but I'm not very confident of that today...

@kscarrol,
I know what you mean :-)
Can BMW USA not confirm for you?
Dad made it very clear car would be rejected if it doesn't have the combox.
Are the laws in the US not even better?
You don't have to take the car you ordered do you?
You can chose not to take it right up to the last minute can't you?
Of course if you did that you would have to wait longer.......

Was too busy today to get into it w/ BMWNA. Sent my CA an email outlining the issue. I will also contact BMW on my own tomorrow. But to answer your question, yes, I can refuse delivery and reorder....

What exactly do I ask for if I want a "print-out"?

I got a sheet titled "Vehicle Inquiry" where it lays out all the selected options and equipment... My CA printed it out for me to make sure we had all the options I wanted.

Question for Everyone

Next week is officially "Week 35". And as we know, cars coming off the line should include the 6VC Combox.

Anyone have any updates or confirmation from BMWNA or their CA in the last day or so?

Also, does anyone know if it is possible to get a confirmation of the build sheet once the car is built? The reason I ask is two fold. First, if someone from week 35 can confirm for us that 6VC is indeed on the post build sheet, then this should put to bed any questions for following weeks. Second, if anyone with week 35 production confirms that 6VC is not part of finished vehicle, they can have their Dealer reorder now instead of waiting the additional weeks for delivery. (of course this would apply to all those...few...of us that have clearly stated to our Dealers that this be included on our vehicles.)

Sorry to be a pain, but my first car has already come in and I am trying to do my best to prevent going through this a second time. I am sceduled for week 37 production.

Thanks

Nothing that gives me any comfort. Spoke to a rep at BMWNA, explained the situation and my concerns. He was understanding and said "let me put you on hold and makes some calls"... After a wait he came back and said all he could get was that the new upgrades will be available, all the upgrades would be available after the factory re-tooling August. But it did not sound like, yes, we have heard this rumor and we can assure you that it is false and the parts available. It really sounded like someone repeating the July press release and saying the upgrades started with Sept production.

Spoke to my CA and he checked everything he could on his end with no apparent issues and he was then going to make a call to the regional rep to ask what they may know. No response to that request yet...

I started this post titled "week 35 production" but am now "week 36". I'll be dropping by the dealer at the end of next week to pursue information. The suggestion that week 35 people obtain info is excellent.

I'm any event, I am getting pumped over the thought of my car being built soon. I already have planned a business trip that I will opt to drive (700-800 miles round trip) to allow me to accelerate the break in period!

At times I wonder if I'm obsessing about getting the Combox and the myriad of new features that will be included. But then I think that with a new car, especially one that is a new model change, should come with the latest features.

Then again, the new voice commands for I-Pod will be cool. Can't wait to say........"Shock the Monkey", after a long day of work!

True! I have occasionally thought the same thing but then I realize that if I am spending this kind of money to order a car with the options that I want and BMW is supposedly offering, then I expect to get them. Even if the ability to use voice command to dial up Shock The Monkey may seem like a small thing, the point is BMW offered the option and we ordered it. If there is an issue with their supplier, that is their problem and they should not simply build cars with substitute parts/options. If the parts are not available, shift production to cars that are ordered for dealer stock, not cars specifically ordered by customers...

Indeed!! We are both week 36 builds, just over one week till she's finished. Maybe we'll be on the same boat over...
