I spoke with Marco at AR Designs regarding the purchase availability for the catted and catless downpipes for the 535i n55 F10.

Marco said they will be available for purchase in 2 weeks.

He had no comment on price at this time.

In the meantime, a good question was asked by a member earlier in this post regarding the difference between an OEM catted down pipe and a catted down pipe from AR Design, RSI and/or Dr Euro, etc. Bottom line is that a catted down pipe from AR Design, for example, offers a greater diameter pipe and a far less restrictive cat than the OEM. The result is better air flow that allows the turbos to spool up quicker. The larger diameter pipe also allows the exhaust to exit the engine faster. And of course, this all results in better overall engine performance over the OEM catted down pipe.

Curiously, I asked him about the exhaust note. I wanted to know if one was to simply replace the OEM down pipe with the AR Design catted down pipe, while leaving the remainder of the OEM exhaust intact, would you here a distinct difference? He said there would absolutely be a more aggressive exhaust note, as a result.

Personally, I plan on purchasing the AR Design catted down pipe and a stainless steel or titanium performance exhaust system at the same time. I believe it would be reasonable to expect that there will be an increase in performance with an even more aggressive exhaust note verus simply switching out the OEM down pipe with the AR Design catted down pipe and leaving the remainder of the OEM exhaust system intact.

I like the idea of catted versus catless. I really do not want the hassle of dealing with the CEL light, potential warranty and dealership issues associated with the catless.

A performance exhaust and down pipe helps the engine exhale more efficiently.

After some extensive internet searching I can only find one option that improves intake. A K&N air filter. I cannot find anyone who manufactures a cold air intake for the 2012/2013 535i n55 f10.

Anyone else have any luck?

I read a prior post where a BMW owner said the dealership discouraged the use of a K&N air filter, as the filter oil gets sucked out of the filter and into the intake manifold tripping a sensor causing the CEL light to come on.

Does anyone have any advice, recommendations, comments or experience in this regard?

Take anything a BMW dealership tells you about non OEM parts with a grain of salt. People have been using the K&N drop ins on N54's and N55's for a couple years now and there hasn't been any issues causing CEL's from them.

Please do. Every time I call to determine availability for purchase they say, "it'll be ready in a couple of weeks".

I don't get the impression they are very eager to get this done and produced for sale to the public. I hope I'm wrong.

Thank you for keeping us up-to-date, Lacster.

Kevin is posting his dyno soon! Some MASSIVE gains! But he needs a new tune, his current one is super lean, and not very smooth at all.

And I am man enough to eat my own words. Kudos AR for not bending us over and in it acting an F10 tax. 770 is a good price for this product.
