Considering a 550i GT- but what about this...

Drove and loved a 2011 550i GT XD today with 88k, BUT I have some concerns before getting too serious about this car.

1. CPO warranty goes out in Feb (2 months of warranty!)
2. Carfax does not show the "big" recall work has been done
3. Carfax does show that a coolant hose was replaced, as well as the vacuum hose at 45k
4. Computer module replaced at 73k
5. Fuel pump replaced at 83k (I don't know if this was the in tank, or if it has more than one)
6. Check engine light on- stored code P12A9 Engine boost pressure (ran beautifully, but I only drove it about 40 minutes)

All service done at the same local dealer for the life of the car- 3 previous owners 3 years- 8 months- and 1 year all local.

Interior looks great, and exterior is 9/10

So- am I crazy to consider buying this high tech monster? I've had two I6 bimmers but this is a new ballgame.

If you have your heart set of a GT, I'd look for a 535i GT instead. I had one for ~4 years and loved it. Very little maintenance and very reliable. 'Big recall' will still be valid even after warranty ends. Fuel pump recall is a non issue because they're doing it with most 5 series right now, even out of warranty. Check engine...engine boost pressure happened with my wife's 528i also so I'm assuming it's common.
I sold my car because of one huge issue and that was the pano roof liner snapping. It happens with almost every pre-LCI model and it's a very expensive fix. I didn't want to deal with it. The I6 will be sluggish because the car is so heavy but here in L.A., I'm always in traffic so it didn't matter. The N63 engine will consume alot of oil (1 qt every 3-6 months) and I've heard with higher mileage vehicles, your mpg will be horrible. Just things to think about before you pull the trigger.

I just took the plunge on a 2010 550 GT with 79k. I immediately got an exclusionary extended warranty with a high deductible. I do worry about the reliability but the car is so powerful and smooth. I've had all kinds of BMWs with all kinds of engines and the V8 is so thrusty.

I'm getting 16-17 combined and 21 on highway trips.

I have a missing sunroof shade. I've already fixed the thigh extension gear issue by replacing with a metal worm gear.

Good luck!
