Anyone else had problems with their airco failing, or long waits for parts.

Condensor has apparently failed on my MY13 (under warranty) BMW germany unable to provide dealer with time for delivery of new part. - 1 month now and counting.

My aircon failed too. Stone damage to the condenser and a bill for £570! Only problem is there are no condensers available in Europe from BMW at the moment so I will have to wait. BMW say it is not covered by warranty as damage caused by "external event"!

The lack of condensers got me suspicious however. I discovered that at least 20 are on back order in my area alone and, as the car is still being produced, the lack of parts on this scale seemed odd to say the least. After further digging around found that the design of the air intake on the F10/F11 has been drastically changed from earlier models as part of the dynamic efficiency program. To cut a long story short: the flaps that open to allow air to the condenser open fully and any gravel that comes off the road is funnelled in, unchecked, into the condenser at high speed almost inevitably causing damage.

This is clearly a design fault. BMW would not agree at first but I pointed out that they fit air filters because they know any dust getting into the engine will cause damage, had they not they could still claim that such damage was caused by an "external event"! We are talking about gravel from graveled roads in this case, this must be an expected hazard!

After a bit of token resistance BMW agreed to cover the cost of all repairs and confirmed that a revised design of condenser would be fitted when available.

Thanks for the info Farmer - The part should be fit for purpose, summer is on the way and with no aircon its an expensive sweatbox.

Surely if its already been redesigned for the latest lci its only the bean-counters to decide how large the problem could be, and make the fix available. (20 on back order in your area, my dealer tells me today he has 12 with the same problem)

Wow, 32 failures that we know about, I wonder what the true total is so far? As the weather warms up that number is bound to grow. Why is there not more about this problem on the web? If there was more coverage BMW would not be able to even suggest that the customer should pay for remedial work as it is clearly a widespread problem.

More fuel to the fire from other forums - I sure hope the 6k back order is not correct. Looks like a conversation to bmw head office maybe warranted to move things along.

got mine booked into the dealers for beginning of next month to see what's wrong with the air con but im assuming the same fault

Also failed A/C here. No pressure in the system. Booked for early June.

The AC in my F10 MY2013 was awful so I booked the car in on Tuesday. I have the same problem and the part is completely unavailable. An order has been placed but no mention of cost was ever brought up and they don't know when they will have the part.

The dealership did re-gas the system but as there is a leak, this will be a very very temporary solution...
