I coded mine with the Bimmercode app. Can also be done with ESys.

Is there a setting to get it to play every time the car is started? Mine does not play every time.

Ha join the club and get in line... there is no rhyme or reason.. can't figure out what makes it do what it does... but when my car sits in garage for a bit locked.. it plays almost every time.. if it has the keys in it.. it almost never plays.. just goes to the last screen that was up on the info screen

Since this is listed under START ANIMATION...iDrive needs to have SHUT DOWN in order to see the animation when you start the car. So the car probably needs to have been unused with no calls on any communication bus in order for the animation to take place. How long is that? I don't know.

IIRC, one has ~15 seconds from the car waking-up until starting for the animation to work. Longer than ~15 seconds, too late.

BTW...changing the iDrive start up animation will also delete any of the 1-8 programmable buttons since it will cause your head unit to shut down to accept the change, then restart.

Just a warning to those that have things programmed into those buttons.

As far as the animation coming on everytime... I have been trying different times and battery disconnected and letting the car sit for awhile.. it has a mind of its own on that one.. one of life little mysteries I guess

...I'm glad you volunteered to be the guinea pig. I hate having to go back and reprogram my buttons.

I brought it up so that anyone that was going to change their start up...they should also take note of what they programmed into each button...especially if you programmed all or most of them.

BTW, the times that I can remember seeing the start up animation...it usually occurs when I haven't driven the vehicle for a while and I'm parked in the garage. Which means the vehicle hasn't been locked....so the I'm seeing the start up immediately after opening the door and pressing the START button. On a daily bases of entering the vehicle at work or other public locations...the car is locked and I'm usually putting my briefcase in the trunk or cargo area...then entering the car and pressing the START button...in which I never see the start up animation.

Well I'll tell you what.. when I left for work last night started the car up after it was sitting all day.. no animation... when I worked all night and left in the AM no animation...I don't think it matters how long the car sits now...
