What will change in 2012?

I was wondering if any of you guys knew what new changes or features would be available in 2012?
My biggest concern is that they will make the msport pack come with 20s instead of those tiny 19s(19s are not small...but they arent exactly big on this car)

Anyways I know its impossible to know exactly whats gonna be new but if you guys have any "inside info" Id like to know!

There will be a 528xi model and a 535i hybrid.

Does anyone know if dealers have been given September allocations yet?
I'm curious to know if BMW's U.S. dealers will be able to get any 2012 models for that month.....

There may be Stop/Start added to all models. Not absolutely sure if it will roll out on the Five this or next year though.

Any specs about the 528xi model? Will the 530xi be the same hk number?

The stop/start we are talking about is when you come to a stop, the engine will shut down. Step on the gas, and the engine starts up again. It is on a few BMW models right now and will eventually be put on all models. The feature can be defeated with a switch, but has to be done every time you initially start the car.

Ok, i saw now that auto start stop is only available on 535xi, 520d, 530xD. I thought that was on all.

Not true my 2011 m3 button has never been off. Dealer hit the button and it's alway off. Everyone hate it but it's to make mpg stats increase.

Quite possibly the single worst thought ever! I would much rather have a lobotomy then to endure this sort of torture. The only hope is the "Green Parade" still permits you to turn this off.

Not sure what you exactly mean by the above statement. Evidently what you are saying is that once you press the Auto Start button on the dash to defeat having this feature, you don't have to press it again until you do want that feature?

That would be great for our fog light switch. Older model BMW's had it where once you flipped the fog light swicth on, it was always on when you had the headlights on. Now we have to press this switch each and every time you hop in the car at night.....not that I would use them much anyway, just seems to be a hassle.

No start/stop in US yet, folks. Certainly not on the M3. That's why you never had to defeat it, Scottz5. 5 series cars in Europe have it, though.

Another change in 2012 is replacement of the N52 engine in the 528i with the N20. Presumably this will also give us the xDrive, as mentioned above, and the 6SP manual for the 528i that have been unavailable up to now.

Where I'd REALLY like a true physical switch is on the seat heater. It would be nice to turn it on when it starts to get cold, and have it always come on without having to hit the button. Just like on my two Volkswagen GTIs.

If they have to technologize it, set up a threshold temperature in the iDrive climate section. When the outside temperature is below the threshold, the seat heater would come on automatically. They could do it for the passenger seat too -- there's already a sensor for the airbag to determine if the seat is occupied so it could also be used to determine whether or not to light up the seat's heating elements.

Both of the 2 above posts touch on something that amazes me. Despite how advanced and "better" we have become with technology and "enlightenment" in all facets of our life we have lost more control in general. We are force fed this technology to conform to the way "they" want us to navigate through it all.

In these particular cases, fog lights should be able to turn on and off with the main light switch should the owner want them to, instead of having to do it each and every time. Many cars through the 80's and 90's had this simple feature, I guess "they" don't want us burning a light bulb without fog. Then the auto on/off turn off is their because its retarded. Have you ever tried to drive a manual with this option and enter a traffic circle, it has for and and have witnessed many people have the engine shutdown on entry, not a good time. First thing I do is turn that off if the car has it when I rent.

Think this all boils down to ... where the hell is my dipstick!?!?! Its gone, and will be gone on all cars soon because most people have no clue how to (nor want to) pop a hood!

Someone just told me that they were watching the BMW Golf Tournament this weekend and saw a sign on one of the holes that read.......New 2012 5 Series with Remote Start....or something to that affect.

Anyone heard of this? I thought BMW was staying away from this feature as it wastes gas in their mind.

'Remote Start' ? That would come in handy in the winter time when it's -15 degree C to certain extent.

I have a real disciple here! Preach on. Your theme is dead-on. This is a "holy-er" than thou philosophy from the manufacturers. They know what we need better than we know what we need. BMW doesn't think a dipstick is needed. I'm in shell shock.
