N55 Catalytic Converter Code Below Efficiency

I have a 2013 Activehybrid 5/535i RWD with roughly 87,000 miles. Recent trip to the dealer for a "Drivetrain Malfunction" message resulted in them telling me that the code reads "CATALYTIC CONVERTER CODE S BELOW EFFICIENCY."

Dealer said I need new catalytic converters and priced it around $2300! Here are my questions:

1) How many cats does the n55 535i actually have?, from N55 manual and looking under car it appears to be only 1 cat

2) Could this just be an o2 sensor issue?

3) Any after market/oem spec alternatives to BMW parts that fit well without throwing codes and wont break the bank?!

Single Cat, it is part of the downpipe. I would expect to find them cheap on the used market from people that have replaced it.

U can also buy used Cat on ebay. Ive seen some for the F10 at $350. Just buy one with low miles. Or u can buy from RealOemParts.com brand new oem for about $1200. Many many options...depends how much u wanna spend

I have a 535i with aftermarket catless DP.

I would be willing to sell my OEM cat. it has about 50k miles on it.

Can a "Catalytic Converter below effeciency" even cause a drivetrain malfunction? Never heard of that happening before but u have a Hybrid so not sure...

I experienced repeated "efficiency" errors. After the dealer replaced the cat, no problems.
