No heating in the rear vents?
Hi guys, I only just realised today that my dad's 2010 520d estate F11 does not have heating coming from the rear vents under the armrest even if i turn everything up to maximum heat on the centre console, only cool air. In my 3 series E93 it has the blue/red dial which in my dad's F11 it doesn't. I initially thought surely not! A 5 seat family car and it doesn't have heating in the back? After doing some brief research online i found that my dad's car isn't the only one with this issue. Anyone else here with this problem or know about this? The car doesn't have 4 zone climate control only 2 zone. If this is normal and a known issue then i must say I am absolutely gobsmacked

Not a big deal for me, as I'm not regularly carrying rear passengers from cold, but annoying when a 3-series has heat control in the rear with standard CC. HighlandPete |

Agree not good. My children are less than happy with this step backwards.
Thankfully all is well upfront...........

Its just that i'm planning to go on a long road trip with passengers in the back soon. With leather upholstery and no heating in the back, not sure how they going to cope, might just have to blast the heat from the front but then the driver and the front passenger is going to get boiling hot...

If the cabin is calling for heat, say set at 20C, then the heating vents to the rear (outlets under the front seats) will be giving out heat anyway, the rear is not devoid of heat. What is missing, is face level temperature blended air flow. BTW, you can switch the cold face level air flow down or off. HighlandPete |

Not sure if the rear vents are absolutely necessary for heat, as warm air is channelled to the rear through large vents under the front seats. Considering heat rises, the centre console vents are more suited to cooling than heating.
Nice to see you are concerned about your passengers though. |

Same in the front as well. Separate air-flow control vents in from dash. Comparison photos: 2-zone front/ 4-zone front/ 4-zone rear

Really surprised to learn this. My 2001 530i has temp control for the rear vents but my F10 does not! What a bizarre thing to remove?
I wonder what else my F10 hasn't got that my base spec E39 had? Other than a seat that doesn't creak in the corners. |

Yes got caught out assuming the functionality of the media pro in my old 520d was the same as my 530 LCI but discovered the enhanced Bluetooth is now an optional extra. I used the email function regularly and miss this is the new car. Seems you can go backwards in spec as well as forwards..
