I just did Friday ..

I know ill get harrassed a bit for not doing Berger or something like that .. but Ive been down the dark side where I had significant issues in the past with tunes on other vehicles ... I needed more assurances since i have an extended warranty and service plan.

It really didnt help that the dealership gave me a 335 GT as a loaner. The math says the untuned 335 and the Dinan tuned N20 should be nearly the same except for maybe some turbo lag. Even the vehicle weight was the same. My general feelings are .. incredible.. Very smooth . with such a broad torque band and boost increase so smooth. There is no major kick of torque (ie turbo off/on) .. it just pulls well. Ive always found driving the 5 series feeling like im driving slow. It's probably the long wheelbase and nose,

Ive only driven a 200 miles so far ... I really need to more time to eval. Do i think its worth it ... even 4x the cost ?? Yes .. As I stated, I want piece of mind

Do I wonder what this would be like in a 2 series hell yea.

OK . so two tanks of fuel later Im loving this tune ... It's almost too civilized though .. Sometimes I miss turbo lag and that surge that comes from yesterdays turbos. I was interested in what was going to happen to my MPG ... Looks like my more aggressive driving which use to be around 26MPG on stock is hovering just above 24 with the tune. That's less of a factor than I thought it might be. I honestly havent tried tried being frugal .. With gas prices down and this much more fun it's hard to be .. Brief testing has shown that by setting sport mode drive train to non sport, it will be easy to get the 30+ MPG ...

I really don't do acceleration tests per say. I use gut feel .. And a place where I might be around 60MPG, i'm definitely reaching 80... The problem with the car, is it masks (with the long nose) how fast you are actually driving ... Thank gawd for a radar detector the higher speeds have caused 0 G sensations on two roads.

I think I need to re-evaluate H&R sport springs ... I need help deciding .. with real feedback not just "buy it".

Thumbs up DinanTronics Updates

Thanks for the updates moosebeamer! Glad to hear you're enjoying it.

We just launched our new DinanTronics tuners for the F22 228i, F30/31/34 328i, F32/33/36 428i, and F10 528i equipped with electronic wastegates today for the N20/N26 cars.

Here are some of our power charts as well that proves yet again that these cars are making more power than we think:

Let us know if you have any questions!

Do you have anything for removing speed limiter? I own a 2014 550xi and my speed limit is set at 137.. I understand theres no need to go faster, but i attend allot of track events and faster would be nice. P.S I dont want to spend an arm and a leg for it either since im pretty content with my Tune now making on a dyno jet 491hp and 610 Torque. Also may I add that I have the fastest 550XI in the world I clocked 11.735 @ 118.65MPH with just a full exhaust and a JB tune. (STOCK INTAKE) Also, I raced all my friend withs the Dinan tunes from stage 1-5 and they got destroyed! .. No need to bash anyone as im sure dinan is Great.. Just saying

We are working on a solution that would not require brute force or a new factory DME but nothing has been set in stone as of yet since there are quite a few variables involved unlike unlocking the speed governor of the past. BMW has made it very clear they do no not wish the speed limiter to be tampered with by relocating its location and how it is integrated within the rest of the overall system.

We will be sure to make that public immediately when and if the removal of the speed governor becomes available.

Will a Dinantronics box be made for the 550? I know there's one for the M5 and considering it's the same engine (just detuned), I figured this would be an easy thing to make.
I'm also curious how if a new box had to be made for the 528/35 and M5 instead of simple software upgrades, how the software for the 550 works?

DINANTRONICS for the 2014-2015 550i's were part of the original DINANTRONICS opening releases back in June. DINANTRONICS are now applicable to nearly the entire BMW lineup (X, Z, 320i, hybrid, and diesel being the current exceptions). By the end of the year we should have a good chunk of those exceptions covered as well.

For your other question... the DINANTRONICS Performance Tuner is made up of 3 different elements. The ECU, the harness, and the software that is loaded onto the box based on application. The ECU itself is the same base unit no matter the application (before software is loaded). There are 4 different harnesses with different lengths, connectors, etc; 4 cylinder, 6 cylinder, 8 cylnder, and a specific M3/M4 harness. The last piece is the software which is developed specifically for each vehicle since each model has slightly unique running characteristics between the various engines and is then loaded onto the Dinan ECU.

I think the confusion that is happening here is that the 2011-2013 550's were the last applications that were able to be programmed via a software flash. After 2013 on the 550i the engine was changed to the N63TU and also utilized a much more highly encrypted factory ECU. This new factory ECU has not been able to be cracked (by anyone) so the only solution available for tuning is by an external device like the DINANTRONICS Performance Tuner.

Software flash tuning simply does not exist for the current generation of vehicles. Perhaps in the future (although given the time and cost involved I would doubt it), but at present there is no software flash solution.

Ahhh, okay thanks for the clarification. Looking at the website now for the TU motor I see the external box just like the other models. I hadn't read that up to 2013 could still be flashed like the "old" models via software only. That's where I was confused as to how the software flash could be offered for the 550 but other new models required a whole new unit. But since the motor changed that makes sense. I have a 2012 so the software flash should still work for me and that's what I wanted to hear!

No worries. It's easy to be confused with BMW releasing new models/variants of everything under the sun every 90 days.

Are you saying the 2011-2013 550s could have the ECU flash-tuned? I'll have to look into that...

Yep. And per the website that checks out too. That's what had me confused- all this talk about the ECU not being able to be cracked yet the 2011-13 could still have a flash?
But this makes sense as the engines changed.

Ive verified that when I drive conservatively, that I can obtain the same results without the tune ... It's much more difficult in sport mode with drivetrain set for sport. If drivetrain in sport mode is disabled then its real easy ..

With the price of gas going down down down ... I've been in full sport mode more .. Every once in a while I'll dial it back ..

My RaceChip has improved my MPG even when I drive in Sport mode or full throttle it doesn't drink like it use to without RC (stock). Now I get to enjoy my car more in any mode, cruising has a bigger advantage now if i'm with the family I know my MPG average has increased 2-5.

Any further updates? Any adverse effects that you've noticed? So, has MPG stayed the same or improve/worsen? I am strongly considering this.
