New Car Dash Camera - Innovative Solution
I have just signed up to this innovative car dash camera.
Seems promising... See these links for more details. Link 1 Link 2 Link 3 I have no association to this company; but I found the product very interesting, hence posting it here. Some pictures here.

Is this a dash cam or a security camera? What I would really like is a small dash camera that would mount on the back of the rear view mirror and have battery power via solar, then transmit to a receiver in the car. No wires, no batteries for the camera, with the receiver/recorder powered via USB.
The company that is going to crack this market open will be the one that integrates (easily) a dash cam into the rear view mirror housing by replacing the back of the housing with their custom fit piece which incorporates the camera (similar to the way weather tech fits car mats into cars). The problem is always getting power to the mirror location without having to take the headliner down. Once this problem is cracked, I could see huge sales potential. I'd invest in that business model. I'd like to have a dash cam, but don't want to see it in the car.

Solar powered camera with base unit hidden somewhere and powered by USB. No wires, no charging issues. As for mounting, you can possibly mount this hidden behind the mirror. This does act as a dashcam exactly as you want.

Sorry, but that is ugly. I don't want some giant metallic circular thing on my windshield...

If their project gets off the ground, you can buy it for a bit less in black.

Not sure about the shape! Prefer also a camera that bland in with the interior with minimum visibility! One that fit behind the mirror so from the driver side you hardly see it.

I went about this a slightly different way, for anyone who's interested I documented the installation over here (seemed the more appropriate forum) https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/thread...5-series.7912/
Very discreet and can be easily reversed (I kept the original trim pieces, and I can just swap them out) |
