F10\F11 Grill Options
I'm not sure on the look of the black BMW performance grills on a space grey wagon\touring, but I'm wondering if it's possible to get a grill with all black slats, but still the chrome outer? Preferably a genuine BMW part.
Anyone got a part number? |

There are 4 grill options that I am aware of (for vehicles without night vision). Check out my post http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=691132 to see 3 of them. The option left out is the m5 grill that has a chrome surround and black slats.
BMW makes an all black performance grill Left Side Part Number 51-71-2-165-539 Right Side Part Number 51-71-2-165-528 If you decide to change the grill, here is a DIY http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=422572 |

Thanks very much for the info, after comparing those in that thread and a quick google it looks like I need a set of M5 grills
The guide will be useful too. |

no, just use a coin or the dull side of a knife or something, did it on mine . I have night-vision, cant buy a black grill then. I can find a picture :-)

While this method may work, it was done because the grill for night vision equipped cars is different and they do not have other options. |

well, I think it's not the price of the car that matters. When you can save $120, save it.
If you are worry about using knife to scrap it off. You can use those nail cleaner or paint cleaner. It will strip the chrome off. |

another option is to paint the fins with Plasti Dip. I could only find the black paint locally and had to order the "Glossifier"/clear to match the look of the M5 grill. I bought a spare grill from a user on ebay so I can always go back to stock if I choose. Hopefully the paint will be here by the weekend and I'll post some pics when completed.

I bought black grills and I thought they were a little too much myself with Space Gray. I had to paint my spoiler so I went ahead and did the stock grill bezels and reflectors at the same time. I later blacked out all chrome and the all black grills look good.
Painted bezels with gloss black louvres: |

Well guys, I did it last night. Removed the grills, seperated them and using some 1200 grit wet and dry sandpaper I removed the chrome on the slats. Looks much better, although the black is quite matt looking, but with some silicon based spray they come up ok.
I think gloss black slats would look better, but I'm happy with my free "upgrade" |

I bought the M5 grilles today. It's not the M look I'm going for, I honestly like the chrome / gloss black look the best (especially on my non-MSport car).
Can't wait for them! |

Welcome to the world of modding. If anyone isn't comfortable with the $100 grill mod, the buck stops here. Agreed, if you can save $120, save it. Well, not if it means doing a ghetto mod that results in a scraped looking grill. Whats next? Spray paint your damaged bumper. |
