So what is the Efficient Dynamics gauge exactly
A search for Efficient Dynamics in the manual does not indicate what this gauge is displaying nor does a search on google. What is it and what information is it conveying. Perhaps just an unnecessary distraction that serves no real purpose?

Keep it in the blue and you can convince yourself you are being ecologically correct. Seriously, if we were that green we woulda bought Priuses. It is telling you how gasoline and energy efficient you are being.

Yes, but now only greener (or bluer). In my one full tank on Eco Pro, the mode bought me 7 extra miles on a tank!!

It's mostly a marketing tool, to make you feel warm and fuzzy that you're being conscious of your energy use.

I can easily keep it under 100mph, but keeping it at 4500 rpm and lower is a challenge. |

it just means alternator clutch kicked in and your engine's charging the battery without using fuel. you can turn it off actually(the whole digital instant MPG bar)

Info display Additional information Off. Or something like that. BMW's have had an MPG "swing" gauge for as long as I can remember, and way longer than it was "cool" to be "green". The blue part just means your on-demand alternator has kicked in. |

I am not sure you have the whole picture correct. It is the dynamic engine breaking (coasting in gear) that triggers the alternator to engage. That is the only regenerative system to charge your battery. There are near severe HVAC demands in winter and summer Interstate driving, add heated seats, steering wheel, and rear window defroster, you are asking a lot. You hardly charge your battery but for the few times you might coast. Short hops are worse yet, a couple of stop lights and you're there and back, not enough time to charge things.
Multiple times it has been necessary and advised by the dealer to leave the sucker on a charger. Now, its my car, so I'm in, but are you going to expect your wife to look after hers too? In winter the car alerts to low battery charge, says it is shutting down systems (HVAC) and even the radio. Dealer has checked it twice, says to drive farther and more often, or leave it on the charger. Out of warranty soon, so to get to the point of your post, running in the charge position is what the light is for. Mine was off and who ever gave you the steps to turn it off helped me get it back on. Its a big help to have these boards. Thanks again! 2011 X3, 3 M Sport, 1988 735i original 5 speed, '73 2002 original 57000 miles |
