Rear end skipping on hard accleration

I have a F06 650 Xdrive, on hard acceleration i feel what i think is rear tires (or somewhere in the rear) skipping a little bit, it is most prominent during 1st 2nd and 3rd gear hard acceleration from a dead stop of slow speed, I dont hear anything noise from the back end or strange sound, and my car stays perfectly straight and not feel like i am going to loose the rear end anytime soon, just feels a bit skippy

My car mechanic friend told me based on what i have said sounds like the rear diff might be on its way out of the door

My actually mechanic who does work on my car says could be my rear brakes since they are wearing out unevenly

Both made the assumptions without looking at my car, I was wondering if anyone here have experience similar events and provide some thought?

*I forgot to mention I am currently running bridgestone blizzak lm-32s winter tire cause its cold up here, however I didnt have this problem before with the same tire setup

2014 550i here and I have experienced the same problem. Almost like your hitting a tiny speed bump under the rear wheels at heavy acceleration. Would love to hear if anyone else has had this happen and if I should be concerned it's a larger issue.

Really sounds like the traction control working to me. Turn off traction control and accelerate hard. Should get wheel spin only.

Had that happen on a previous RWD car. The only thing I can think of is I hit a patch of oil on the wet road as I saw nothing.

What you are experiencing is likely wheel hop. Differential bushing torn is a possibility but I've not seen that cause it in on itself.

Weak rear shocks, dissimilar road surfaces, even adjusting tire pressures and make or break this behavior.

At the end of the day wheel hop is a rather common issue with high powered independent rear suspension cars.

OK, surprisingly enough, when I first got my car, upon hard acceleration from stop, I felt a skip/bump too. Took the car in and they said everything on the rear end looks good but one of my engine mount up front was shot which they said caused the whole setup to move such that it presented itself as something in the back. Once they replaced the engine mount. no such sound/skipping. Maybe check the engine mounts?

xdrive here, same issue, worse on 20s, easier on 18s. suspecting its xdrive and transfer casing but - all checks turned out negative results. no clue also why this is happening... I will mount 19s in next summer with fresh michelins. If this persists ill go back to dealer. I also thought it was DCS but lights arent flashing so...

It's just wheel hop, the car is trying to spin your tires but not quite powerful enough. My last car did the same thing and my 535 does it too.

As Stuck mentioned above, a lot of things contribute to it, but the smallest cracks or bumps in the road will cause this. Make sure your DSC is completely off as well, hold the button down for 5 seconds to turn it completely off.

So the problem went away after I swapped from my Blizzaks back to Summers... so I guess it was the winter tires not enough grip -.-

Sounds about right, esp when you consider winter temperatures.

Hope you're enjoying the full power with good tires now

About to go to summers also and will report if the issue went away - or not.

FWIW on all my previous RWD BMWs (5 I think) Ive never experienced this hop but on xdrive it is present. My previous summer setup also exhibited it, but there the issue was for sure crap tyres contributing. Lets see how she does now...

I've had it happen with my RWD 550i. Theres a combination of things that can cause this. Temp, weather, tires, bushings, surface... etc.
Bad shocks deff will cause it.
