He has a few tuner cars. From his experience whenever there is a boos leak or loss of power.. Go back to the aftermarket parts. It's either installed improperly or it's defective.

Nice, thanks for sharing.
Question about the A/F ratios. Am I seeing it right that the 2014, both stock and modded, are 13+ near redline while the 2013 goes down to 12? This is 93 octane, right? In my Evo days we ran richer on 93 octane, but we didn't have direct injection, which I assume lets you run leaner. Leaner is meaner, lol. Still, I'm surprised by the diff between 2013 and 2014, but it looks consistent with the 2014 cars. Regarding the boost/power loss, can you log timing? Is it dropping timing there compared to the stock car? If the car is knocking, real or false, it would pull timing and boost. Maybe plug(s) or coil(s) isn't quite right and getting misfire at high boost? Did you say it's hitting 19 PSI? May need to try a tighter plug gap? As state, also need to check for boost leaks. Good luck! |

Yes its with 93.
the 2011 or any n63 will boost less. the 2014 n63tu boost 2-3 psi more factory. Quote:

BMW always underrates their cars and I've always suspected the 2013 and older 550's were making more than advertised and they "said" the '14's made more to sell, but they were really just finally advertising the real output.
Either way, good luck on the modding. I'd love a retune for my 550, but don't fancy a voided warranty. For now, I guess 400rwhp and 440rwtq is enough (until it isn't, lol). |

More boost stock is good, but I'm more interested in the A/F ratio.
Did they use a wideband sensor? I think I can see it in the tailpipe of your vid. I'm just surprised that the 2014 runs a point leaner? The 2014 seems more aggressive in both boost and A/F ratio, it's like it's "tuned" from the factory, heh, but you still made impressive gains with BMS. With that much more boost and leaner A/F, how much more power is from the VANOS change, or maybe it just lets it run more aggressively. That's likely the case, since those that I've seen with the "old" N63 (like BB) had to run race gas to safely run more aggressive boost (+4 above BMS S1)... One more question please, were any of the cars 8sp? If so, what gear did you guys use? 6th is closest to 1:1, but seems like a high gear to use for some reason... I've seen people try 3rd, 4th, etc. I may try to dyno my car this Spring. Thanks |

The 2014's definitely make more power stock - they run more boost, and have different hardware. It's more than just marketing, however, I think the 2011-2013's are more over-rated than the 2014's, but the 2014's are still over-rated.

Over rated? That would imply they are making less power than advertised.

Cant really go off my graph, My car and the dyno had issues. My car losses power on the dyno after 4500rpms. And a ton, but driving the car, there is no such issue. car is making power till redline. I really think there was just a hick up in the dyno. When I did the stock run Terry took off the tune and ran it. After running the stage 1 for 2-3 weeks. and 700+ miles. Im sure my car wasnt fully adapted to stock settings. I believe driving a stock car to run stock numbers will yield better results then coming in tuned with ecu adapted to tune fully then taking it off and doing 3 runs, I dont think its enough for real #s. I think my car was just confused.

COMBAT - any other feedback update personally or from Terry? Is S2 in the works for the tU? Does he think it'll yield the same incremental gains from S1 to S2 that it did for the N63?
Have you tried race gas yet? And, have you figured out what your power loss issue was? |

But my car is at evolution racewerks for the downpipe issues so when it's done I'll go get that swapped out for the proto type one on my car. And I'm sure that if we have enough sold tu tunes he will make a stage 2

Has there been any update on your 550i? I wish I could afford one, but lucky for me, my mom just picked one up tonight. I'm 27 years old and feel like a kid on Christmas morning. I want to order the stage 1 from BMS asap, but if a stage 2 is coming out soon, I might just save the cash until that hits the market. Anyone up in northern CA (Sacramento area) with a N63? I'd like to see how the new N63tu performs head to head.

Looked on the BMS site - I could not find anything about the Stage 2 for the N63 - is this still in beta? is Stage 2 just a download?
