LED reverse light bulbs without coding
Hey anyone know where to order LED reverse light bulbs that have built in resistors and do not need to be coded? Met a guy with an M5 last week who had them in his car so I know it's possible. He said he didn't have his car coded. He said he got them from Amazon. Anybody else have these bulbs without having their car coded?

How would this be coded in? I want to change a lot of bulbs in the F10 to LED especially interior and the reverse lights.

For the interior I don't think they need to be coded? Check in the DIY

They basically program the car to not look for burnt out bulbs by checking the resistance, LEDs have a different resistance then the stock bulbs and then the car thinks a bulb is out and it creates a fault. That's what I was told by someone, so since my car is coded I'm wondering if a bulb burns out, will the Idrive still show a bulb out warning.

I guess my reverse lights seem not that important to me other than when I'm in reverse for 5 sec? Now the fogs are a different story.

Standard halogen bulb draws current more than 1.5 amp, in order to fool bulb detection, load resisters is used to emulated the halogen bulb load. LED bulb can have its own resister but can never match the current draw by real halogen. It might be able to handle 50-150 ma depending on the type of the bulb. This is why "CANBUS error free" is not 100%. It is totally depending on the detection threshold from the vehicle. External load resister is getting close to 100% as it can draw current much more than internal resister without heating problem. Nevertheless, even with external load resister, you would still notice LED flickering from bulb check signal when you start vehicle. The pulse is too short for halogen to glow, but long enough for LED to emit. Here below is the picture of external load resister I got from bimmian. Last edited by cm048; 11-23-2015 at 02:44 AM.. |

Ahh man sucks that it isn't error free but if you can code it out then it's worth the extra brightness
