LED Interior Questions

For Christmas, my girlfriend got me a LED interior kit from Amazon for my F10. I love the gift and changed most of the lights. However, there are few questions I have. Name: rsz_img_5789.jpg

1. Any tips on removing rear dome light console? I have tried both sides but CAN NOT remove at all. It seems like the tool is struggling to even get in. Name: rsz_img_5771.jpg

2. Does LED lights void BMW warranty? On the thread here, someone said it does. If it does, I want to remove the lights then
3. The front dome lights were changed but the reading lights seem to be slightly on when the car is unlocked/on. It looks like this. Is this normal?Name: rsz_1img_5775.jpg

Do LED's void what warranty? I'm thinking if you have transmission problems or a spun bearing, they wont blame it on your interior LEDs.

That's what I thought too. But this is from the thread.

I think you will need 14 bulbs for the whole car. And it would void the BMW warranty but you could just change it when you bring your car in.

the rear dome has spring clips holding it in. you need to prise these out of the surround to un clip them. one on either side. make sure you don't lose them when they drop down.

Look in the f10 diy section for Interior LED DIY. I used it to do mine. I had the same issue with the reading lights so I left the originals in. Don't forget to do the puddle lights under the doors.

I looked at that and was trying that. Also Precision LED has a video on YouTube just for the F10 but I just seem to have a huge struggle :/

I try to but I think the tool is struggling to reach them. I'll be ordering tools from Amazon later

For them to void the warranty, they have to prove that mod has effects on the failed component. So they can't do it for a failed transmission. But if you do a complete bolton(intake, plenums, entire exhaust + manifolds, boost controller, etc..), and you have engine failure, then they will try to void your warranty.

There's a court case won and a law for it. I forgot what it's called. Haven't have to touch that for a long time.

Okay good because the car has warranty until 2017 and don't want that gone! Only mod is the lights at this point. I don't think I'll be doing anything else

Oh thank god. I got paranoid that it can cause the battery to weaken

It happens to my Infiniti also. I traced it down and turned out to be the leakage current on the electronic bulb switch (MOSFETs in the lighting control unit). The leakage current is very small, way lower than 1 mA. Since LEDs are very sensitive devices. They only needs a couple mA current to be on. That's why you see them slightly lit. The leakage current is so small to kill the battery.

Neat project. To be honest, though, I'm not a fan of the look. I prefer interior lighting (whether in a car or house) to be as close to normal incandescent light as possible - usually around 2700k - 2950k in color temperature, as the cooler temperatures start to feel like an office building, and many of the LED bulbs create an annoying / visible refresh rate effect.

Even if it's not going to drain your battery, the bulbs remaining slightly on up-front would also annoy the hell out of me. After all, it's a well-engineered / expensive luxury sedan, and that would make it feel "cheapened" / broken / not-quite-right to me.

Sorry to be a downer on it - to each his own at the end of the day.

Interior LED's shouldn't flicker and shouldn't remain slightly 'on' - I've changed bulbs on numerous cars and when that stuff happens, I send the bulbs back and try another. That always does the trick.

No issues with the LED's in my F10. Very consistent, solid clean light.

My wife prefers yellow lighting but I'm definitely more comfortable in LED white. I also think, personal colour preferences aside, LED interior lights modernise the interior look a lot.

I'm with your wife. The last thing I enjoy is a very bright light in an otherwise dark environment. Same with the puddle lights.

That's just personal preference in this situation as I would generally prefer the cleaner, whiter light.

Don't make me correct your spelling (color)

Over here, it's akin to a crime to spell colour without the 'u'. My school teacher would have kicked me out of the class room.

I kinda was keen to the amber lights inside. Guess I would have to sit in a car with white lights instead to see if it's really nice or not

I like to throw in the 'u' where you guys do for fun and to see the reaction. I also like to throw in the occasional tyre.... I actually like the way British English spells some things better. Don't get cocky (), but it's classier to me. And I have little, if any, G.B. heritage; it's mainly Norwegian.

Glad to learn that I am not alone. I also like warmer LED, it gives
a more relax atmosphere and make my brown interior grows a bit. This is not easy to explain.
I notice that LED in new generation BMW also in 4000K temperature.

Taking this route, it was very difficult to find proper LED replacement.
At the end, I bought normal LED, and changed the LED chips myself to 4000K
(with the exception of that standard OSRAM 4000K in the dome)

For the problem of bleeding LED when off at the dome light.

I remember that I had to modify OSRAM LED by adding resistor
at its base for the two of reading lights so it worked properly.
BMW circuit required a load like 200 Ohm at this point.
Please see picture above.

What I could not recall is that my mod LEDs in either front dome or rear dome.... I remembered I did it only with one dome.

I think if you replace a bleeding LED with a loaded LED, problem will disappear.

Two questions.
How did you remove the rear dome? I'm struggling to
Should I change all the LEDs to Osram LEDs? It's $12 each though

#1 => PM Sent. I can not post ISTA's pictures here.
Basically you need pry tools push exactly 2x metal tab from the front edge.
Working with feeling once your feel a metal tabs, then push.
Pry tools with the width of ~1cm tip will be fine.
Need to push exactly the metal tab in the picture which I circled in red.
#2 OSRAM only works perfectly with dome. I put total of 6 OSRAM in the dome.
Its light pattern does not fit the rest of retrofit. It is like projector lamp.
Get the one with frosty dome.
