Hi all,

Has anyone managed to code a bigger battery via Bimmercode and then proceed to register it through Bimmerlink?

I currently have an 80Ah AGM battery and have recently purchased a 95Ah AGM battery. wondered if i could code the increased Ah in Bimmercode (from what I've seen, the options available will be 90Ah or 110Ah) should I code the battery as 90Ah as I assume overcharging will not be good. Then register through Bimmerlink l.

I already have Bimmercode but will purchase Bimmerlink if this saves a journey to dealership.

Yes...select the AH that is closest to what the battery states. Then once the new battery specs have been coded...go into Bimmerlink and register the new battery....just like it states in the Bimmercode app.

1. Why no regular Lead Acid batteries between 50-65Ah which is where the batteries for a BMW Mini Cooper would reside?

2. My battery was replaced like 1.5 years ago and the car is not charging it enough. The previous coded battery is a 55Ah. The current battery is an H6 750 CCA which as far as I can determine was 70Ah's new. I don't think this late in the game it should be set to 70Ah's right? I probably need something closer to 65Ah's. Can someone confirm that?

You’re correct…an H6 battery normally has a 70AH rating. If you have it set for a 55AH battery and you say it’s not being charged properly…why not change the coding to 70AH (AGM?) and also re-register (using BimmerLink?) after changing the coding parameters.

Not sure why you think it’s too late.

Well it is not an AGM, it is a Lead Acid, but the reason I was thinking it was too late is I heard that the way the computer works is that it starts thinking at 70Ah and then slowly reduces it as the battery ages. Since it is an old battery, I thought putting 70Ah's (the original capacity), would be too much and by now, it is probably down to 64-65Ahs.

I had a FoxWell and I have been unable to make it work and that's where I discovered bimmerlink/bimmercode.

I'm pretty sure BMW's IBS won't play well with a Ni-Cd battery. The charging system likes to keep the state-of-charge around 80%; a Ni-Cd wants to be at 100% for longevity. AGM's are deep-cycle batteries, Ni-Cd's aren't.

What type of battery does your MINI’s owners manual say you’re suppose to use? I would double check/verify if it requires/recommends an AGM battery vs a regular (wet) Lead Acid battery.

EDIT: I just did a quick google search…and it appears a MINI uses an AGM battery. Perhaps some of your issues are due to the car not having the correct type of battery.
