G30 LCI vs F10 LCI

I was having the second HPFP replaced at Sewell BMW this past week, my loaner for the week was a 2023 M550i ($98K MSRP) with 400 miles on the ODO. I had been very curious to see how the G30 LCI drove compared to the F10 and especially how the N63TU3 felt.

My initial driving impression was it felt extremely similar to the F10, the adaptive suspension and M sport brakes were noticeably better over the F10. Aside from all the new finishes the basics layout was almost identical to the F10 which was convenient to not learn a new car, example G20 LCI and the massive curved screen.

Overall I wasn’t really impressed and oddly like the F10 LCI over the G30 LCI. Some pics, my ole F10 at the end.

I also didn't think the G30 was a big improvement over the F10 when I test drove it back in 2017. At the time, I wasn't a fan of the exterior of the G30 but I think the G30 LCI is an improvement and is almost on par with the F10. Again, I may be biased but I think the F10 is a beauty with a timeless design. The way BMW's design is heading, it looks like the F10 will be at the peak of BMW designs for the foreseeable future.

I had to upgrade my 2014 535i (kept it and traded-in our 2012 535i) to a G30 (2019 540i) because of the demise of 3G. I use the RTTI & BMW Online too much to do without. Upgrading the F10 was not an option.

The only thing I don't like better about the interior is the cluster; I miss the BMW orange backlighting. I thought I would HATE the afterthought of an infotainment screen, but it has grown on me. That could be very well be bigger size helping my old eyes. After just over a year with the G30, I much prefer it over our F10.

I am confused about the RTTI. I have a 2011 and I had the cellular service deactivated and took the $200 gift card BMW offered. I still have the RTTI. I just took a 400 mile trip over the weekend and it still worked giving me the latest traffic info including alternate routes. It showed traffic on the highways and was pretty accurate.

Is your Westchester in USA or Europe? Perhaps that's the difference.

That would be the difference. The UK is still good, though I don't remember for how long.

I am in Westchester NY. On my recent 400 mile trip, there were a few times I was stuck in traffic on the highway and the Nav showed the traffic jam and it was pretty accurate in measuring how long the backup was. I typically use Waze on my phone but decided to use the cars Nav on this trip.

I will point out that I no longer have the ability to read text messages on the NAV screen after the deactivation. This was the only noticeable change. I never sent addresses to the car but I suspect that capability doesn’t work anymore.

Mine quit totally last Feb (2022) when ATT shut down their 3G network...

Are you the original owner? IIRC, there was/is a workaround available. Maybe the previous owner had it installed. Do you have BMW Online?

Interested to know as well. Mine also quit in Feb ‘22. Would love to get the traffic back up and running.

I think the G30 LCI is a gorgeous looking car when compared to its other BMW siblings, however I do prefer the muscular look of the F10 LCI. With the right setup, it looks incredibly mean and has tremendous road presence. There's no doubt the tech is much better in the newer car as is, I'm sure, the refinement of the overall driving experience. Pretty sure I'll be hanging on to my F10 for a loooong time especially given the way BMWs design language is looking these days.

Well stated.

I feel much the same way, it's why I'm still in my F11 wagon. Takes nothing away from the G30/31, but was not enough for me to change to a G31. F10/11 M-Sport has a definite road presence, which I feel is being lost in many models.

CrippledLucifer TuckerE36 HighlandPete Yes, agree so much! There are some small things I dislike about our F10 (EPS & interior control location), but I still get a kick out of going out and seeing it in the driveway every day. It is just one good looking vehicle with some perfect proportions and sizing. Everything just clicks with this car!

Is there a bad viewing angle? I haven't found one. My biggest gripes about the G30 styling are the boring hood and droopy-looking butt.

A friend bought a 2019 (or 2018, I don't remember) 330ix Estate. I grew up with station wagons and wasn't really interested in them... UNTIL I saw my friend's 330ix. Now I REALLY want an I6, 5-series wagon!

We're a wagon family... had the E34 for a long time, and a couple E91 wagons in the last few years (both crashed). They're GREAT, but a little small for family cars. A five series wagon would be PERFECT! I'm cautiously optimistic that the new 5 wagon will come to us here in the States and in a real world variant, not just an M5! A 540i wagon, or heck, even a 530e would be great for us.

I am the second owner after purchasing CPO off a lease. BMW online is deactivated.

Previous owner didn’t install this. Yeah, I am certainly confused as to how I am continuing to receive current traffic given the deactivation, which I had done probably 8 or so years ago…
