'Coolant Low' light

2014 528i …coolant low light keeps coming on. There's no coolant leak. Coolant in reservoir stays at the same level. Heat from vent only blows really hot when temp is turned up to 84. Mechanic said it's not water pump or thermostat (car's not throwing codes). I suspect it the heater core that's the issue & I'd like to flush it to see if that solves the problem before I go spending thousands to replace pump, thermostat & heater core. Any input on where to locate heater core hoses under the hood would be greatly appreciated.

It could be a coolant level switch located under the expansion tank.

I had the same issue. First I changed the level sensor, that did not fix it. Then I changed the expansion tank a year ago. Fixed the issue and is still working.

This happened on my 550 and it turned out there was a separate coolant tank for the turbos under the plastic engine cover. Refilled and the warning went away. I assume not the case on a 528 but sharing just in case.
