I'd like to drive the two and compare.
I am shocked that the Lexus is 300 lb lighter. BMW gets fatter every revision, that will catch them sooner or later. Weight is the enemy. |

I don't believe any reasonably competent designer will create something like this. All design elements of the car don't match. To me, the car looks like it's under too much influence from the management who decides what the front, rear, side profile etc... should look exactly like according to the designs of their rivals aka Audi, BMW, Merc..
The current outgoing Lexus IS on the other hand has a much more coherent and hence confident design |

Lexus interior is just great. It always has been.
For those craving max simplicity, BMW is for you. However, BMW interior could be quite boring to many. Exterior of the lexus is not my cup of tea. Too much asian styling. I prefer the solid german feel design of the BMW. WEIGHT........................................... is embarassing. wow. I was gonna b1tch about being 30pds heavier than the lexus, but 300pds???????????

Here are my thoughts.
The new GS is like the E60. It is a daring and controversial design. It is nice overall, and the specs look good. BUT, when the next gen 5er and the next gen GS roll around in 6-7 years, which one will have stood the test of time better? The F10. It is more refined, the design cues look very modern without being too over the top. The E60 looks old and outdated compared to the F10. The same thing will happen when this GS is finished with its production cycle. Designs of luxury vehicles need to be more evolutionary than revolutionary IMO in order to avoid sales flops. Sure, throw in a model or two that really spices things up, like the LFA, R8, SLS, GTR. But mainstream vehicles should be on the more conservative styled side of things. BMW needs a super car like those other ones. i8, and current M models don't count. They need a ground up super car that can hold its own against the rest of those vehicles. |

The front looks like an Audi sucked a lemon, the side rear door aperture looks like a melted hofmeister kink, the rear taillight graphics look a bit BMW, the interior looks like new Mercedes with a sprig of BMW.
Nothing is fluent, it is a frankenstein design in my eyes

Could they have the Lexus L any larger on the front and rear of the car? It looks hideous. From the side Lexus ripped off BMW's design.

Look at the sweeping wood in the lexus, look directly at the aluminum sweep, they ripped it off from BMW! Can't they do anything original!

the BMW seems to have a more refined passive/aggressive look while the Lexus has a techno/classy kind of look

Didn't know camry's were RWD/AWD
That's like saying the 3 series is just a overhyped mini cooper. Quote:
What you just typed just showed how much of a douchebag you are. Pretty sure 90% of drivers don't give a shit about driving experience . Enthusiasts are less than 10% of drivers. You literally pissed away your money because you bought an m3 that has the same performance numbers as a Mustang GT, and Mustang GT's costs 1/2 the price of an M3. I bet you are gonna bring up the "but my M3 is more luxurious" to back up your car, but why even car about that if you are all about driving experience. |

it should be a comfy ride and it looks more fun than the previous gen. I'll take one.
I went from a C-class to the F10. we also have the current ES350 at home. Comfort level wise the Lexus beats out Benz and BMW. But driving excitement is close to 0, well at least for the ES anyway. so, there's +/- about the new GS but I am sure it will do fine. |

It's funny how you are talking about fading, because my X5 (E70) steering wheel has been peeling off like crazy, if you go to X5 forum a lot of people got this problem. Moreover my previous X5 (E53) had the same issue almost on every panel (after 60K), also LCD screens on ODO and radio were missing so many pixels that it was impossible to read.

My biggest problem with the new GS is that there will be no V8 option. So for now it will still be a 550i vs M56 vs E550 battle. I dont know but for me a midsize (not so 'midsize' anymore) rear drive car should always have a V8. I think I read somewhere that instead of a V8 Lexus is gonna put a powerful hybrid V6
Also in terms of exterior styling, the M56 is one of the best looking sedans on sale imo next to the Quattroporte and Aston Rapide |
