What is this??? Connected USB???
Found this in the USB in the glove box when I purchased the car from dealer. Appears to be a very slim USB stick but iDrive doesn't recognise it and when I put it in the laptop it doesn't show up in devices (nor can it be formatted).
It does, however, run a command (cmd at prompt) on laptop and directs to BMW website. Any ideas? Cheers |

Same here. I got one with my new BMW in the welcome pack - did nothing.
I followed the instructions and put it in a USB slot on my PC. It was supposed to unlock access to the owners part of the BMW website so you can see some special deals. I have a Computer Science Degree from Cambridge and I could not for the love of God get it to work!

It worked for me.. All it does is open the browser and direct you to the connecteddrive website.

Does it work? On a previous occasion I received a Welcome Pack from BMW that was a leather document wallet with an accessory CD, and spaces to store the V5, insurance certificate, service documentation etc.
This time I received a white cardboard box with a cheap tacky USB device that doesn't seem to work properly, and a few adverts printed on glossy card. I know which piece of marketing made a better impression on me! |

Theres a certain 'clunkiness' about the way they offer some services - eg with Connected Drive Membership, the only way you get signed up with a password is via a TXT message ? Odd ...
Never really sussed the benefits of that service yet and find the options of Online Services / Assist / Online / Apps / et al confusing ... must be getting old !

I think it (connected drive) is worth it once the car has passed 3 years as I believe it will be required for RTTI. (assuming your car has it - I think this was introduced in the UK around late 2011). Much better than TMC.
Its not cheap but RTTI has saved me hours of time avoiding traffic jams and queues over the lastcouple of years. One of the running costs that isn't perhaps well known abouit , especially for those you of you leasing for 3 years. |

Looks like RTTI is outside ConnectedDrive and comes as part of prof med. system!? http://under-the-skin.org.uk/news_bmw_rtti.html

It's a paid option after 3 years -It falls within the Bmw Online suite. From the article referenced
"In order to use RTTI, the car must be equipped with the BMW Navigation System Professional including mobile phone preparation with Bluetooth interface. The new generation of traffic information will be offered as a priced option in addition to a BMW Connected Drive contract." |

Looked further at this and all I can see on BMW's own website is reference to RTTI under ConnectedDrive (suggesting it is an ongoing cost feature).

Looking at the online configurator in europe (UK maybe different) there is ConnectedDrive services as one option then the RTTI listed as a separate option. Perhaps they split the services out now.
In my specific case I have BMW Online,Assist, Info Plus (concierge now) and the RTTI works |

Mmmmm question is, how much will be once your 3 years of car ownership (from new) is up?
I certainly don't want to give it up, but hope its not silly money per year. |
