I hope this trend will reverse. Gas is back on an upward spiral and fuel economy standards are tightening. Last time this happened, we all thought the high performance car was finished. Yet, we had a 20+ yr run of many fine performance vehicles. I'm optimistic that we'll see a revival. But BMW may have "screwed the pooch" with the latest 7, 5, and 3 series.

Review is retarded, but the 550i won the performance end of it because it WAS faster, read the article, in the 1/4 mile it won w hich for decades has been the true test of acceleration from the track to the street.

I also notice they did not have the sport auto option but the standard 8spd, the sport allows for faster shift points, the 0-60 probably would have different results but wont speculate.

There are lots of things to pick apart on this article but I think the 5 series has a tiger woods complex and that is everyone is tired of this car being the best so the 5 series hate in these reviews is evident. Considering this, the 550 still won, awesome.

BMW > the rest

InsideLine Video:" Infiniti M56 vs BMW 550i

BMW just sneaked this one out. The complaints about the cars electric steering just keep coming in. It seems like it's also lost it's title of "most fun to drive".

Hmm, so are they saying the Infiniti is sportier and more of a driver's car? Hell, seems like the two brands have switched personalities for these cars. I'd prefer the sportier ride personally.

But yeah it's such a close margin to call either way that any small bias the writer has will sway the decision. Not to mention that in order to crown a new champ, the challenger has to win emphatically. It's much easier and safer to say the old king remains so.

Fact is, drive the car and decide for yourself. If you like it buy it, if you dont then dont. The new 5 series has been incredibly successful for good reason.

The recycling of the same numb steering discussion is so worn out, what is the objective at this point?

In its class, without paying sick money, you cant get any better then the 550i equipped correctly.

+1. Coming from a 335i to a 535i, the steering is different but far from numb. And the 5 series is noticeably better both in terms of handling and ride comfort than the Infiniti. I test drove both extensively (along with others I wont mention) and would have loved to save some scratch if the Infiniti was even in the same ballpark. It wasn't, by a mile. Even the Audi A6 3.0T which makes few pretenses at being sport-oriented handled way better than the Infiniti.

Interesting to see that Infiniti has lost (or given up) most of its edge in pricing.

Datsun makes some wonderful cars and they have done a remarkable job with the "M" series. And the "G" series sells very well. However, they just aren't quite there with the refinement of the BMW, in either series.

Awesome. I lived in Landstuhl from 1988-1992 and enjoyed my 300zx there the whole time!

I am not too far from Landstuhl, we like it here a lot, enough that we bought a home and have been here for quite some time. What I love most is I travel all over Europe easily because its practically dead center on the map.

I agree completely. I have been almost everywhere in Europe and loved every minute of it. My wife and I go back every few years and travel around for a couple of weeks. I think the next trip is either this summer or next summer.

Thats awesome, did you do the European Delivery for your ordered 550?

My schedule prevented me from being able to go to the factory, I was out of the area for an unknown amount of time. I was a little disappointed, I wanted to drive it from the factory to my driveway. Oh well, next time.

I wish! lol. Didn't even know about it. We have a Performance Center Delivery for Thurs of this week.
After hearing about it I figured I would do the ED for the X5 that I plan on getting my wife in the next few months, only to find out that X5's are made right here in South Carolina so no ED available.
If only I had done the X5 first then I would have know to do the ED for the 550i.

I'm considering either the M5 or M3 to replace 550i after X5 so would definitely do ED on that. We'll see
