Robio , you may consider ActiveHybrid 5 also. It is 535 with Electric drive.
I just got one.
It may not be 550, but it is more that 535. Just a thought.

I'm curious. What's the difference?

Pretty certain I'm doing the 550 X-Drive in white and the M package. Anything I should have as a must in terms of packages?

The electric drive help push the car also, hence additional horsepower.
It is using the same technology as the i8, except with smaller electric power. (That's what the BMW Genius told me)

I got my 550 back today from the N63 "recall" issues (still isnt' fixed, just can't get the parts in) but man, I forgot what it feels like having this much power just on tap whenever you want it. I had a new 328i as a loaner and while it's a quick little thing, you just know it doesn't have the sheer power of the V8. This car hasn't had many issues for me thus far and if they really can make the engine solid after this fix, I'm not sure I can get rid of it. I don't know how I'm going to be able to drive a V6 again after this.

If you like power then go with the 550 no question.
Haven't been able to happily drive a v6 since.

If you're on the fence then you probably want the 550 more. The questions you're probably thinking but went unsaid:

1. Is it worth the extra money? if you love that power
2. Can I afford it with all the right options? because it will be over $80k

The other factors are really null like:

1. Nose heavy - this is not a big deal if you have the M Sport suspension. Yes it still won't feel as light as a 528 but the only time where that difference matter is on the track, not the street. Even then, the 550 will power its way past the 528 and 535 easily.

2. Bad Gas mileage - part of the game bro.

3. N63 recalls - not for the newer models, don't buy a used 2011 or 2012

4. Not being able to drive a V6 again - oh please, the next gen TT V6(eg. M4/M3) you may find in future 5 series won't make you miss the V8.

From my experience, the Tesla Model S electric motor makes me want to ditch any ICE vehicle. That thing can be docile like a 535 and goes mad with massive instant torque unlike anything I've ever experienced.

If I buy a house in 5 years, I will probably buy a Tesla Model X over a 5 series instantly.

Good Choice.

The packages you absolutely need on your 550 are:

(1) M Sport -- Which you have indicated you are going with;
(2) Executive Package
(2) Lighting Package
(4) Comfort Seat Package
(5) Cold Weather Pkg -- You are in Chicago it appears
(6) Possibly Lane Departure Pkg
(7) Rear window shades

This will put you around the $81-$82,000 mark.

Personally I would add DHP without question, and rear window shades are not a must have IMO. Agree with all else.

I'd imagine its a little like the AC, once you have its 100% impossible to go back.

Isnt it slower than the 535 though? (only by a bit, I think though)

No, it is actually quicker and faster than 535 since it is 535 with additional electric motor.
My Hybrid 5 is in service right now and I got a loaner of 535. I can tell you that the pickup on the 535 is heavier than the Hybrid 5.
With JB Stage 1, it gives you more power. I have yet to try the racechip and JB4 Stage 2.
