Error 132408 - Intake cam not in locking position at startup

I posted this in the 6 Series also: 2013 650 ix N63TU V8 Twin Turbo

So, I got a check engine light on. Code 132408

VANOS solenoid valve, exhaust: Intake camshaft not in locking position at start up.

Mileage: 40,000 Only drive 5,000 miles/year

Car seems to run fine, no rattle at start up, normal startup, smooth idle, smooth running, haven't asked for a lot of turbo power so don't know what would happen. But I rarely ask for a lot of power as this is my laid back driver. My C8 is for spiritized fun. So:

Is this something I should be concerned about or can I just live with it? And wait for a more serious code before doing anything. If it's just a bad solenoid valve, I don't think it's going to hurt anything in the engine.

That will turn $$ into $$$$$$$$ rather quickly, IMHO.

From my research, it sounds like it can cause operational issues (rough idle, stalling, not full power) but not actual engine damage. Do you have any actual experience with this situation?

Ended up buying two standard equipment BMW parts for $450 two weeks ago and anticipated having a local independent BMW shop install them at sometime in the near future. Today the check engine light came went out. Will be returning the parts.
