525xd coming in September

I talked to my dealer today about getting an 530xd. He told me in September the 525xd is coming, its a four cylinder turbo diesel, about 218 hp.

Just wanted to share the info.

I think it's the 2 litre diesel with two turbos.

Seems like the sensible thing to do for BMW. It's hard to see the case for the .25 R6 engine.

Its the same engine as in X1 23d I guess. The X version has about 10 hp more as the RWD. Light and efficient engine. Probably a good thing now with the exploding oil prices and unrest in the middle east.

Good news, as Mercedes already have this option, a really strong 4 cylinder diesel engine. But I think it will be a much revised engine compared to today's 23d which has been around for a couple of years. 400 Nm of tourque is not good enough today. Interesting to see what the consumption will be with the new automatic with start/stop. Compare 530d with 530xd, big difference.

Today's 525d has 450 Nm, so that is absolut minimum for the new engine I suppose. Also important will be the price difference for this engine compared to the 20d. The gap today between 520 and 525d is about 4500 Euro but 4 is less than 6!
