How does my sat nav traffic work???

So I have the cheaper nav, the smaller screen, business nav?

My question is.... I know I don't have the real time traffic but I do have some kind of 'delayed...' Traffic updates, I was wondering how this works, is it by sat updates???? It seems to be quite dubious on accuracy, but helps sometimes!!

It uses the RDS-TMC system, which is basically coded message sent via FM. I had it in my E60 (Professional Nav) and it's usually pretty out of date, only really of use when there's a major incident such as a closed motorway.

It is actually broadcast within the Classic FM signal and decoded by the car, you dont have to listen to Classic FM of course!!

It's better than that as it's a continuous feed, but the same source, yes.
