iDrive for 2011 vs. 2014/2015 550i

I'm looking at a 2011 550i and was hoping someone would be able to point out the hardware and software differences between the CIC and CIC-HIGH iDrive systems. Also, which model years had each of the two systems? Lastly, I read the current version is iDrive 4.2, so what were the numeric names in previous versions. I was not able to find anything using Google so I came here.

Is it possible to update at stealer? Or is it a hardware thing?

I believe 2014 + is called NBT and 2011-2013 CIC, and its different hardware.

NBT was standard equipment on 2013 model.
