Sport vs. Sport?

Quick check. Is Sport program activated via center button = Sport program activated via center selector lever push to the left? Exact outcome? Thanks.

I believe that the Sport setting via the center console button changes the weight of the steering, throttle sensitivity and transmission shift points.

Moving the shifter to the left only changes the transmission shift points.

Yes the sport mode has all the variables as you say, according to how the car can be configured. Shifter to M/S is simply the gearbox program, even that is different to the sport mode drivetrain program.

For example, in my 535i using sport mode (Drivetrain checked) and then moving the shifter to M/S, typically drops a further gear. It's as if sport mode is a half-way mode to full Sport gearbox function.

Yes I've noticed this too

What about S+ vs S (drive train and chassis)? the only difference is the traction control?

Yes, I believe the only difference in Sport+ is that you turn off traction control.

My car, the same happens in Sport & Sport+ modes. Say I'm in Sport mode (drivetrain & chassis checked) the gearbox has already dropped a gear for higher shift points when switching to Sport mode. If I move the shifter to M/S it typically drops a further gear.

If I'm in Sport mode with shifter in D and toggle to Sport+ DTC activates, no other change. If I then move the shifter to M/S the gearbox drops a cog.

The gearbox dropping a further gear is not a constant, it depends on road speed/rpm, but it is clear shift points have moved up to a higher rpm due to using the M/S program.

I have passive suspension so no changes there on my car, but the car feels the most sporty when both the drive mode and transmission are in sport rather than just one of them.
