Vehicle Check due..."Since 01/2000"!!
My car greeted me this morning with the warning that Vehicle check service is past due "since 01/2000"! Yesterday, it showed, correctly I think, that Vehicle check is due 6/2015. I'm taking the car in tomorrow to have this looked at. My car does seem to know the correct date and time. My concern is that, just as on a computer motherboard with a dead CMOS battery or CMOS reset, something lost power or was reset and an internal clock reset to base time zero. Has anyone seen this in their car?

Nice, so your car needed service prior to its build date.

I do admit that I have been driving very fast lately...Warp 9+...This may mean that I have travelled so close to the speed of light that the space-time continuum has been distorted locally. Hmmm…imagine the service advisors laughing after writing up THIS “customer comment”.

Avimax, Thank you. What is your car's build date? Mine is 3/2011
Rsyed, Thank you. Is the doing to which you refer a DIY project or did you have a BMW center do the coding? |

I've not checked my car, but I'm sure something is in the list for 6/13, 2-years from my build date. I'll take a look when I'm in the car. HighlandPete |

Very good question and yes, I am sure that I've kept up on any service required. Until a few days ago, the Vehicle check service was reading four years from the in-service date which made sense to me. I've had oil changes and brake fluid changes according to the service prompts and the resets have seemed logical. This problem is illogical becasue the service prompt is for a time eleven years and two months prior to when the car was built. This reading is what makes me strongly certain that a processor or computer component has failed.
My guess about your car is that the Vehicle check date will be four years since in-service. My reason for assuming this is that the four year point is one of the paramaters for the end of free maintenance and the dealership will want to show you an audit of your car's status at the end of their free service obligation. Your dealer will let you kow that these checks can be performed ONLY in the month in which prompted. Or maybe I'm bieng cynical, and the date has nothing to do with the end of free service |

Just had a look at my car and yes, the visual check is 4-years from build date in my car. Nothing unusual at 2-years, other than oil (if applicable) and brake fluid.
So nothing that should overshoot at 2-years and mess with the date format. Does appear to be a glitch, particularly as it has the 2000 dating. HighlandPete |

Good information. Thank you. As a side note, I learned that the oil replacement interval is based upon fuel consumption. In my case, my car suggested that Ii could go almost two years between oil changes but my dealership allows me a free oil change every year even if the car's computer does not prompt the change. If you are worried about too much distance or time between oil changes, you can have them done, free, once each year.

I've had something similar happen three times in my car first time they did a reset. Second time they did an oil change early and reset. Third time it would not go away and they kept it for almost a week and on the paper it says they unplugged the battery and did a reset.

I was in and out in one hour and the work performed was to do the Vehicle check and to reset the interval warning. If my story turns out to be anything like yours, and I have to take it in again, I'll be more demanding and ask for the problem, not the symptom, to be corrected.

To follow up from this iDrive issue on 2/26, on 3/6 iDrive froze (locked up) and rebooted. Now I'm going to ask more sincerely about whether there is a common component which may be failing.
According to my key fob reading, my Integration plant is F010-11-03-502 and my I-Level HO is F010-12-11-503 with “New integration level available” as “none”. Any idea if there is a common theme to the problems on 2/26 and 3/6? |

It seems that the "Service Check Due..." error is linked to a rear (only?) brake replacement countdown flaw and that they are solved, together, by SIB B34 02 13. I'm glad that I mentioned the brake countdown faltering and restarting to my SA! Please see the attached invoice for details. When I took my car in, the Service Check Due since 01/2000 and rear brake replacement in 3,100 miles were indicated. When I got the car back this morning, the Service Check Due indication was gone and the rear brake service was shown as required in 16,000 miles from now.
I hope that this can end the Service check Due since 01/2000 mystery. Regards, MWPos |

The "Service Check Due since 01/2000" warning came on again this morning. This is the fourth time this problem has been documented so my SA and the service manager will call BMW (Germany, not NA) Monday morning.

Mine just did the same thing-rear brakes 3100 miles and vehicle check 1/2000
I was hoping your SIB would fix it. I am scheduled to go to dealer Tuesday.
