Unhappy 550i and road bumps

Hi,

I'm wondering if road bumps will harm my new BMW 550i?? I try to drive slowly as much as I can over them (got many of them where I live!) ... Can my bimmer handle them fine?

THX

Keep it slow. Car's not built for bumps!

The ones that I'm worried about that you suddenly see ... not the ones you see next to schools and other important places to slow down ...u can say "bad bumps" or kind of holes!

i'd sue whoever put it there for damaging my car if the bump were inappropriately placed.

but usually they erect a sign that says "bumps ahead"...

I was in a garage yesterday, with those speed bumps. If you have the Dynamic Handling package, try it on comfort setting. I couldn't tell the difference between comfort and normal. But definitely between comfort and sport, you could tell there was a considerable difference. Didn't try sport +.

I think ibimmer sums it up best ... the car is made to be driven, keep it on the road but enjoy driving it! Back roads are rough in Germany and even with my 535 and soon to be 550 I drive right over them with some care but I wouldnt never get past my driveway if they concerned me too much. Alignment and balance is always true.

From what i've read, the Comfort setting is mostly about further diluting vibration from smaller road irregularities. For example, road path laid with bricks with lots of small gaps.

It's subtle, but it definitely works. I tried it out again today on a beat up road going about 40 and switched between normal and comfort and there is less shimming or vibration. Some Bimmer fans like the vibration, so it really depends on your taste.

I agree too! Don't worry and just drive it like it was built for. Too much worrying will dilute your overall experience.

Remember your old car? Did you care as much after a certain time?
.....Didn't think so.

Just drive~
