Active Cruise Control - first experience

I just completed 300 miles Phoenix to Las Vegas in my F10 /550i and have two observations about Active Cruise Control.

First, it's amazing technology; I can't imagine ever highway driving without it. It does have its quirks such as an occasional tracking of adjacent lane vehicle speed on a curve or my own human error of trying to pass the car in front of me using speed adjustment at the steering wheel rather than the gas pedal or first getting out from behind the car ahead, but I soon figured that out.

Secondly, and what makes ACC priceless, there wasn't a single backseat driver comment to "slow down" or "stop following so close" from my wife the entire trip.

If ever there was a question about the cost of ACC, it is worth every penny!

Yes it is very good. Should I get stuck in heavy stop start traffic, I often switch it on as well. Only irritant is having to press RES if stopped for 3 seconds or more but I believe the newer LCI models with traffic assist are set to 30 seconds.
If a car cuts you up , it can brake perhaps heavier than if you were controlling the speed, but overall I agree, an option worth having although not cheap.

I totally agree with you that it's amazing.

I didn't bother to get it because I tend to get very bored on long trips. I usually want more engagement to keep me awake so no cruise for me. I just set the warning dings at 80mph so I don't get a ticket.

I also love it and won't get a car again without it.

I have found the car will accelerate when you put the blinker on to pass the car in front. Obviously if you are following at the current set speed it won't do anything.

It's definitely a cool feature, but you do need to be careful with it. There are instances / scenarios where it can (and will) scare the living hell out of you. It's not a flawless technology, but it certainly is great for cruising on a lightly congested highway. I won't use it in heavy congestion - just too many landmines to watch out for that outweighs the benefit.
