528i oil capacity

I'm the proud new owner of a 2012 528i M sport. I did some searching for diy oil change info and anything related to how much oil to add but this was surprisingly hard to find. I saw recommendations ranging from 5-7 quarts which is a big difference.

So does anyone know the official oil capacity of the 528i with N20 engine? Thanks!

How frequent are you advised to have your oil changed? I was told that it's every 15,000 miles or once a year. 15,000 miles seems like a lot of miles to wait for an oil change though.

I think I am going to do 5k oil changes with M1 0w40. Its easy and inexpensive enough so why not. Ill send a sample to blackstone and perhaps adjust the frequency depending on the results.

Yes, its 15,000 miles or once a year. Since I only do about 10-12k miles a year, i get the annual oil change. Have been doing that on my bimmers for the last 14 years without any issues.

Thanks for the re-assurance. Good to know it's safe to do once a year oil change.

I have an appt this Saturday for an oil change. It's been 15 months but I only drive about 8k/year. If you were to do it at home, how would you reset the scheduling computer in the car? BTW, if you don't have a coupon, BMW will charge around $285 for just the oil change. Ouch.

BMW has pulled back from 15K to 10K per oil change ... Seems like they ran into a few issues .. I certainly had my share ... I get them to actually change my oil around every 7-8K
