Twice this week I've tried to open the door after I shut the car down and the door would not open as the locks would not disengage.

I pull the handle, you see the lock pin on the door come up but not fully and the door refuses to open. I had to use the key to unlock it.

Anyone else experience this?

My mom gets claustrophobic and would FREAK! Iv'e not experienced that problem.

I have been experiencing this since last Fall. I haven't had time to get the car to the stealership yet for them to address it. I'm betting on a faulty door lock mechanism.

I had this happen to me a couple of times this month. Sometimes when I try to open the door with the engine running, the door will not unlock. But it unlocks when I use the center console button or if I shut down the engine (the doors will auto-unlock then).

I have a faulty comfort-access door handle on the driver's side, maybe it is acting up.

it could be the mechanism not fully engage/disengage. The parts are not expensive, the labor is.

same thing happened to me and I took it to BMW and they replaced a part and fixed it for me...apparently a bit of a known issue.

I had it happen in my 98 528 too.

I have the same issue with the driver's door. It will randomly fail to unlock when the internal handle is pulled. I have to press the master lock/unlock button on the dash to get it to unlock. I also have an issue with the driver's side rear door handle not locking via comfort access - the unlock works, but not the lock on this particular handle. I'm headed in for service in a ~1000 miles, these items will be on the list of things to check.

Just started happening to mine as well. My car has comfort access too, like most of you who posted here.
Let us know what they find and what the cost (if any) is.

Took my rig in for service this week and had them look at both issues. They ended up replacing some of the internal lever components to solve the "failing to open/unlock the door when pulling on the interior handle" issue. They also replaced the touch pad sensor thingy for the left rear door handle comfort access locking issue. $50 copay on my CPO coverage.
