Black Grille on Carbon Black?

After a while away form BMW, I'm about to pick up a 520d M Sport tomorrow with a black grille fitted - but I'm having reservations about it !

Do you think that the black grille or the chrome looks best against Carbon??

I thought that as the car has shadowline around the windows, the black grille could look good, but then the door handles still retain chrome strips in any event.

All comments welcome

It's okay as long as the grille surround is still chrome. Personally I prefer the brushed aluminum grille on Black.

It's personal, obviously.

But I'm not into blacking out the kidney's on a black bimmer. Especially not on a 5-series. The grill is BMW's most important design trademark, I just feel that it should stand out a little.

I tend to agree - my initial reaction was to get the black grille removed and refit a chrome one - then I thought the black would be a little different than the norm !

I admire your taste in cars AidenL. I've just swapped my Meteor Grey S5 for an Alpine White 520d M-Sport manual with Cinnamon interior.

Left it stock, however. Considered the minor mods (blacked grille, M badges etc) but chose not to. Couldn't afford the BMW NAV so fitted a Garmin 3760T to the dash with a half-decent F10-specific clip which I would recommend.

Best of luck whatever your choice!

Definitely personal taste, I happen to have a carbon black msport that has the shadowline grilles installed and I love them. I have posted a link to my car to maybe give you a visual to aid in your own personal decision for your car. The picture may not do it justice but I think it works well with the rest of the shadowline trim including along the bottom front of the side mirrors.

Ah, I still have the S5 and its depreciating like a falling boulder !

Wife drives it at the moment, she does very low mileage, it only has 30k miles on it, so I may have to keep it as a classic , based on how unattractive it seems to be as a trade in !

The € 1566.00 a year road tax really chokes me up though !!

I would do black grills...thats my choice when I order mine....more stealthy and why not be a tad different... gonna be so many msport packages on the road..

Don't worry. Swapping the grills is easy (DIY) and will cost you only 100 EUR.

With night vision you cant get a black grill. Made a compromise, scraped of the silver paint on the ribs. Think it looks ok. Some chrome, but not too much.

Matches the chrome on the black BBS Ch-R and the door-handles.
