2011 528 white smoke
Picked up 11 528I 2 weeks ago. Car is awesome! White smoke constantly
flows from rear exhaust. Cold or warm weather here in Atlanta does not make a difference, always "puffy-white" smoke spews. dealer says "it will go away" Any thoughts or comments? 310 miles and rolling |

Is it smoke and does it smell oily or is it steam which evaporates very quickly? The latter would indicate a blown head gasket; unlikely in a new car, but not impossible - check your coolant level. |

I'm about to order a 528i myself- I have a 2008 335i and drove the new F10 535i and the power delivery was just not the same on the 5 series compared to my 335i- felt sluggish/laggy in stop and go type driving. I like the 528i as it seemed smoother in the power delivery and a little quicker handling due to the lighter weight. Do you agree or wish you had gotten the 535i- plus MPG is better, right?

Pogodog, you drove both the 535i and 528i?
I haven't driven the 535i, but what the 528i lacks in torque its makes up for it in revs .. its goes high and likes to be driven in a racey way.. but i have the 258hp non-DI N52B30 engine which is the same as the NA one, but its unlocked a bit more on the high end (NA gets only 240hp but same torque 310nm) 535i gives u the power (torque) in stop and go conditions, the 528i prefers the highway and long country roads with no lights |

Any updates on the white smoke? I have the same on my 550. It seems that the white smoke ( looks like water vapors ) never really goes away. Talked to another 550 owner today, and he had the same problem! My car has 8000mls and his 6000mls.
Looking at other cars, that I followed for almost 30 min in stop and go traffic today, there was almost none with white smoke!!! Only me, and from double exhaust............... embarrassing! Like an old car with blown head gasket.

So itīs on both R6 and V8 engines, not related to turbos?. Can it be something with cats or what?

Can the garage not confirm if it is just vapour from cold starts? If your coolant levels are stable, then most likely simple condensation filling the exhaust, and taking longer to dry out than we expect.
I notice that some are talking of stop-start driving, does it dry out on a good run? As our latest engines become more efficient, it does seem we have longer times/mileage to get rid of normal water vapour from the exhaust boxes. Definitely common in the UK, particularly if the climate has a bit more humidity. I see this all the time in my Highland environment, even more noticeable with the bigger engines. HighlandPete |

I get the same white smoke from my 2011 528i with 700 miles on it. I didn't know about it until my co-worker saw me getting on the freeway and I was going about 50 mph. After that, I do see the smoke often. I'm taking it in to get it checked out next week so I will see what they say

Water vapor smoke/steam is normal in most all cars but it's not exactly white. More like a translucent gray/whitish color. If you have a truly pure white smoke then that's something else.
