Venting
Have 2011 535i and notice the auto vent feature.
Is that something that is effective for relievuing heat build-up in car? It seems there are 2 timer options. Would this be something I activate to vent excessive heat build-up during day when car is parked for long periods of time- say a work day at the office? |

I have it set to start about 20 minutes before I expect to leave work.

it works, but at a certain point it's kinda like farting during a tornado. When it gets hot in SoCal, it can get into triple digits like this past weekend. OK, so it's 130 in the car and you're blowing 100 degree air to cool the car. Um, ok. I think Ceramic tint, the BMW windshield visor and cracking the sunroof is about all you can hope for. If you hold down the unlock button on the keyfob all the windows open, I do that sometimes.

I use it daily, but I tend to agree with gatoman's analogy.
It helps marginally. If you have A/C on, and park, it can continue for 20 mins or so blowing out the residual cool air from the system and just delay the onset of heat buildup by a short time. Then there are the 2 programmable periods. If hot out, it just blows hot exterior air, but I suppose it agitates the air some inside. If really hot out, I still crack windows, use shades, and park w/ back window facing sun - in addition to venting which I program just before lunch and just before leaving work. I'm finding this keeps it tolerable on hot days.

-Just set it up this morning when parking at the office- is it a daily activation or once set-up just repeats daily?
-How long does it vent for (15 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes)? Thanks |

You have to turn it on, It won't automatically vent at the same time everyday.

I think 20 minutes vent each. I have a quickbutton programmed to take me to climate control settings where I just quickly "check" the 3 boxes - Vent now, Time1, Time2 (which remain set to the same time each day and can be changed). To activate climate control venting, the engine must be just shut off, but "accessories still on" position. It won't work when the engine is running.
