New 550i Power Specs
So I noticed that the 2014 550i has something like 448 bhp and 480 ft/lbs torque.
Is it the same engine with some software mapping over the old 400/450 ? |

The N63 was the pre-LCI engine, and the N63Tu (Tu = Technical update) is found in the LCI 550. It's not a new engine, per say, but it's a lot more than just software updates. There's a PDF guide for the mechanics floating around the Internet somewhere (can't remember where I saw it) that covers all of the mechanical changes. I think one of the most significant for the consumer was the replacement of the injectors, which were problematic on many of the pre-LCI 550's.

Well, you can still get a SW tweak for more power via something like BMS. While not BMW sanctioned, it's relatively safe and will do the job! That said, I really don't think a 550 (pre-LCI or post) needs any more power!
