Newbie looking for first BMW

We are looking to pick up a clean CPO 2012-2013 535 w/ M Sport Package. This would be a car for my wife and kids & general Family car. Anything I need to look out for? Is there any major differences between these years.

Thanks in Advance.

I know the feeling I just got my 2013 550i for same reason family car.
I bought my 2013 because of the warranty I like to stay on the safe side. This cars are not cheep to work on.
Definitely go with M Sport I bought my car in California I drove for just about 25-26hrs but I got what I was looking for.
Good luck

She'll be coming out of an Audi and I drive a 911 so I'm used to the German maintenance costs... It's worth it :-)

Glad you know what you are possibly in for, but I have to agree. I'd get the 13 unless there is a 12 that is perfect and a great deal. You can always do an extended warranty, but I def wouldn't have a 5 series or any BMW for that matter without one.
Good luck and keep us updated!
Oh and one more thing. M-sport kit is a must IMO!

Definitely depends on what you're looking for. The 11s and 12 M Sport cars came with more options standard in the M package (DHP on the 11s and the 12s came with just the dynamic dampers. Both of these came with the multi contour seats which are waaay better than the standard seats) For 13 you drop this as standard equipment in the M package but get a much better base suspension which a lot of people swear by ( I personally prefer the adjustable dampers). Also with 13s you get the NBT head unit which is much better technology wise for maps, idrive, etc. Depends on what you value the most. If this is purely a family car the dynamic dampers give much better ride quality and you can stick it in sport and still have fun. Coming from a 911 this is going to feel like a very large car for you. What Audi is your wife currently in?

Seeing that ur in Frisco no need for XI since u don't have snow. I just know it gets cold up there. If I could do it over again I'd see if u can find the same car but a 550 instead. Good luck with whatever u decide and let us know!

I'd go for the 2013 with the dynamic handling package (DHP). BMW made improvements with each model year so the newer the better.
If you can swing a 2014, they did a mid-cycle refresh (LCI) which has suspension and steering improvements, is quieter, has launch control and coasting mode, faster iDrive with a touchpad, and several other improvements.

Thanks for all information. My wife currently drives an Audi A3. It's a long story but when our girls were little we bought a mini-van. My wife hated it from day one and made me promise that when the kids could climb into the car without help she could get something quick and zippy. I work for Audi in a round about sort of way and she wanted the A3. She just let me buy a 911 so who am I to deny her what she wants. I know the 5 series is much bigger but so are my kids. Our good friend just picked up a 550 and she loved it. I think an 8 might be a bit much for her and the 6 Turbo is enough for me to have fun when I'm driving it. No AWD needed or wanted. We've also considered an E350 but we both don't want to trade Luxury for Fun.

Its weird cuz i didnt have much concern going into the f10 535. My only concern is what options I need to get. M sport is definitely a great choice, just make sure you have DHP and the multi contour seats. I think after 2012 it became a separate line item.

Oh I think the worse part about the car is the cup holder and the crappy GY tires. Get rid of them as soon as you can or demand the dealer to replace the tire before you pick it up!

Without hijacking the thread, I'm also looking at a 535i, MY12 and am seeking advice in what to look out for and whether it's even a good idea or not.
I'm not going to rave on, I'll start a new thread when I can, but it's loaded with options and done 60,000 km's (37,000miles).
Any opinions welcome.

Bought a '12 535i back in January. Have put over 10K miles on it and have loved every minute of it. Had I to do it over, I would have held out for an M Sport with fewer (had ~44K miles) miles.

We went on Sunday and test drove a few cars. We started looking at a used older gen C-Class = too small, New C-Class = interior was hideous, ride was decent but there's this afterthought iPad style display that was a deal breaker for my wife. She told the salesman that it looks dated already and it's still on the lot. We wanted to drive a used E350 Sport but they only had one available and it stunk like cigars so we just left.

Then we went to BMW and test drove a fairly well optioned 2012 535i M Sport. Wife was loving it. Interior was well built and understated. Acceleration was decent and handled decent for a large sedan. Kids loved ut because they would get their own adrift and heated seats. It was a decent price and probably would have driven away in it if it weren't black. I'm kind of OCD about detailing and a black car drives me crazy. My Jeep is black and it looks fabulous for about an hour. Luckily it's a jeep and I don't care if it looks like crud.
