I stared noticing some vibration when braking at higher speeds over the last month or two but it did not bother me much till today.

Today I was following an older model M coupe on an interstate and at some point we got to about 110-120mph.
At this point M coupe started braking and so did I and the vibration in the steering wheel was pretty violent even scary.

To make matters worst my car is a 2016 BMW 535 that is a lease takeover with no brakes warranty coverage. The car has only 29K miles and the computer shows 15K miles left for brake pads.

It seems that there is also a slight vibration on acceleration but that could be just my imagination.

Should I take the car to an indy shop to check brakes and rotors?
Can someone recommend a shop in northern NJ?

Could the problem be caused by wheels out of balance?

Please advise.

Sounds like warped rotors to me. Usual signs is vibration during freeway speeds. Probably going to need new one. Pretty common in f10

Take it to the dealer. Should be covered under the 4/50 bumper-to-bumper warranty. Mine was.

Common F10 problem of warped rotors. And yes that should be covered under warranty

I am sure it's the rotors. I just had the rotors replaced a month ago. Same issue but steering vibrated from 80mph. One rotor was out of spec. The SA said, not warped rotor.

Thanks, but it probably was covered under free maintenance.
I do not think brake pads or rotors are covered under the base warranty.

2016 maintenance is not transferable.

Bumper-to-bumper means just that. Say you have a pulsating wheel when you apply the brakes and it should be covered. The only way the maintenance agreement will cover it is if the car calls for the brake job, not because of a defect.

Some dealers will cover it, some won't. My F10 developed the same symptoms. I took it to 2 dealers and they both declined to cover under CPO warranty since the rotors' surfaces were "rusty" but within wear spec. Their brake job prices/fees were absurdly expensive so I went to an indy for new BMW rotors/pads at half the dealer cost and braking was then smooth as glass at all speeds with perfect bite. And the indy's free coffee was just as good as the dealer's.

I'm happy for anybody who gets "defective" brake rotors covered.

I'm not talking about the CPO warranty, I'm talking about the FACTORY 4yr/50K mile warranty. A 2016 will be covered until at least fall 2019 (depending on in-service date) or 50K miles. After that, the CPO warranty adds a year and 50K miles.

The car's in service date is 8/8/2016, so the new car warranty is still in effect.

At the moment the car computer shows 16K miles left for the front brakes and 18K for the rears.

I have a ‘15 535i M-Sport that had the same problem. Interestingly it also started rearing it’s ugly head at around 28k miles. It starts as a ? in your head which eventually becomes the undeniable pulsation that you feel on the pedal and steering wheel.

I only changed the fronts and it went away for me no matter how I use the brakes now. Zimmerman Coat Z’s with Akebono Euros. Love the combo. Street driving only.

When my car was still under 4yr/50000 mile warranty I had loads of things done. I got 2 pressure convert valve replaced. Front rotors and brakes. 3 door handles, oil filter housing gasket, inner door vapor barrier and 2 batteries, the new replacement battery wasn't holding charge.

It should be covered dude. Doesn't hurt to ask even if it's not.

My dealer pointed out front brake vibration (which I had started feeling) when the car was in for something else, but denied coverage under factory extended warranty (whatever the top plan was in Canada extending factory "bumper to bumper" to 7 years).

Still living with it. There's a lot of brake material left but I'll probably end up swapping out. I was surprised to find out online in another thread that BMW updated the part specification from two-piece to single piece front rotors along the way. I was planning all along to specifically order two piece just like originally equipped but now I'm wondering. One piece are cheaper, that's for sure, but I would think they would be MORE prone to develop vibration than two piece.
