Good Deal on a 2013 550?

Dealer has a 2013 550 with only 1,500 miles on it. In service date in October. I guess someone didn't like the car and turned it back in because the seat was uncomfortable? Anyway, Nappa Leather; Luxury Seating Package; Dynamic Handling Package; M Sport package; Executive Package; Bang & Olufsen stereo; Heated Front Seats.

Sticker was $81,700. Looking to pay $68,000.

Any thoughts on price and some of the above options, not all of which I was thinking of springing for?

Many thanks,

Bill

I think it's reasonable price for 1500 miles.

Check all service record and make sure it's not a lemon. Otherwise a good buy.

Hard to believe someone would find the Luxury Seating Package with Nappa Leather uncomfortable. I would try to find out the real reason why it was returned to the dealer.

I would check any and all repair and warranty work on the car and offer them $65k if it checks out. Remember it is a used car and someone already took a haircut on it

+1
Why was it returned? Service issues, etc.
Good luck with the deal. Sounds good to me.

In July 2012, I bought a 2012 535i X-drive with 133km (84m) as a used car (second owner) when the first owner (93 year old) lost his license and returned the car for a 3 series for his son. Car was plated for only two weeks. I saved $12,000 plus taxes plus all the upfront costs of a new car, got a full warranty etc.

Dealer seemed as mystified as me about someone finding the seats in this car to be uncomfortable. I have an 02 and it is still one of the more comfortable cars I have driven 10 years later.

Evidently the first owner has longstanding back issues, but still . . .

Getting the carfax and asking about maintanence issues, but I wouldn't expect ANY in the first 1,500 miles. Paying $68K including covered shipping accross the country. Seems like a good deal. Unless there are wet haddock in the trunk from Sandy.

So you have not even seen or driven the car yet? This deal is sounding worst and worst by the minute.

Why, out of curiosity? From a reputable dealer. All warranty remaining. Plenty of photos. Carfax checks out. No real reason for suspicion. What is worse and worser about it?

Before someone bought an $80,000 car, they didnt test drive it for a while to see if the seats would be a problem before they bought it??? Really what could be wrong besides storm damage, the warranty should cover anything that could happen.

If they will sell it to you for $68K, the dealer probably didn't pay much more than $60K for it. Means someone has walked away from a 2 month old car and dropped 20 grand in the process, I'd want to know why they did that.

The story about seats doesn't wash either, what person with a back problem doesn't try out the seats thoroughly in an $80K new car they are about to buy

I agree with your logical skepticism - I am actually a professional skeptic I suppose. But I now have Carfax and it is clean (car actually turned in after 260 miles and driven by dealer for 1,300). Very strange. But BMW would have record of any lemon/maintanence issues were there any. No dealer is going to sell a car of this value and misrepresent these facts to me (Used Car Manager knows I'm a lawyer ).

As to the original customer, never underestimate the thousands of people out there who don't share your reasonable value of money. He leased the car and walked away from quite a bit of $$. But folks do it all the time.

Anyway, I suppose there is some risk. But the value is good, not crazy don't be a fool great. I have 48,500 miles of warranty and think it is worth moving forward with. I promise to follow up and let you know if I've been had.

In that case (putting skepticism away for a moment ), it does sound like a reasonable deal.

The one sure of knowing if this car is a BMW buy back is to check if this vehicle is a CPO and if it qualifies for an extended warranty...

I am about to dump my 550 in a similar way. One, I did not like the feel of isolation I get while driving a manual car where I get no enjoyment of shifting it myself. But, more importantly, my dealership was unable to fix a vibration that is persistent between 1,500 and 2,000 rpms. My point is, my car will probably be sold to someone who will not notice the vibration and be happy with it. I in turn, will be very happy with my M5...

You realize that you can buy a car at 5000-6000 below sticker price plus the incentives that are out right now which add up to another $3,000 for a total of $9000. Why buy used when you can buy new and pay a few thousand more.

I agree, especially this time of the year. slightly used cars are more expensive than new cars
