535d 2016 Turbo Question
New to forum. Coming from an E31 and loving the 535D Torque.
I am working with a tuning company ESS for a E Tronic plug in and play tune on my car and I am being told that my car has 313PS vs 258PS. They were adamant that I need a 313PS. Please correct me if I am wrong but USA 535D is a Single Turbo with twin scrolls, thus the "marketing term" by BMW Twin Power Turbo. Am I correct? With all honesty, I am a little surprised that a tuning company wouldn't know what they are tuning. From my understanding there are no 535D Euro Version in USA (the one with 313PS). I ran the VIN on Realoem and they only result is that it is a N57 motor and build date of 09/2015. Info from realoem: You Have Selected: 5' F10 LCI BMW 535d. Type Code: XA53 I was sent a 313PS box, and today after pushing for a resolution for this. I was asked by the tuner if my car has single turbo or dual. Again a little surprised. Has anyone worked with ESS Tuning for Diesel cars? I know there are many satisfied customers on 535i and others but looking for members that have installed the E Tronic Box on their Diesel specifically 535D. Which box they went with? They called me back and told me since I have 535D with single tubro they will make a "custom module" for me. I am getting a little worried now..... Feedback and thoughts are greatly appreciated. Yep I'm pretty sure it's the equivalent of our 530d in the UK. Worrying that your US tuner doesn't know this, I'd get a refund and buy of someone who has already developed one for this engine. Racechip is a German company who have tuning boxes for this engine, there's many others out there too...

But after providing them with the VIN number they came back with wrong information. I called numerous times and they kept telling me the same thing. "you were shipped the right product". After explaining to them the difference between the two turbos they told me they are sending me a modified version. I am getting a little worried now....I know its just a E Tronic Box, but I don't want to damage my car. |

not sure about diesels, but I had the ESS tune on my previous 550 and loved it. maybe they need a test vehicle to get the correct tune for that specific application. too bad they are in Arizona

The US only gets the 535d with 258hp, there are no "real" 535d's (313) in the US. Looks like that tuner needs to do more homework on the diesels.

With all fairness, after me pushing and pushing and going back and forth they sent me a 258 model one. I am sending the 313 back to them. I have to get my car serviced then I am plugging it in. Please note, I am a little picky since I am purchased the car and will be driving it for many years to come. Alex |

Will do. Just got the 258 yesterday, but the harness and usb instalation instructions are in the original shipment which is at FedEx.
I Telecommute between San Francisco and Southern CA (San Diego / Little Italy). On one of my drive if your around you can take the car for a spin after install. Alex |

Update: The box was installed and very noticeable difference, very happy with it. The installation was very easy, plug in and play. One thing to note is the wiring needs to be tucked away nicely. The instalation guide is ok. Install takes about 35 minutes, at least it did for me.
BMW Brad, test drive is still on the schedule. My business travels have taken time away from my fun stuff.....driving Looking forward to seeing your new wheels. Also, I need to do the spare tire solution, since I don't have run flats anymore after my HRE Flowform in Tarmac 20s change. Any recommendations on brand and where to purchase. |

Hey Alex, what's up! I actually bought a 7 series spare that works very well with my 20" BBS CH-R set up. I look forward to meeting up! PM me and let's talk! I hope things are well!

Update: So after having the until installed I started playing with some of the settings. I changed the setup to the most aggressive tune which is P in Red and +3 and the car has become a devil! It is in need of an exorcism.....insanely fast.
I talked to ESS tuning Tech department and they mentioned they don't ship it out on that setting since there will slight MPG change and also if the cars ignition might get under pressure which is not the case for F10 D, since Diesels don't have spark plugs. |

Hi Alex, have you brought you car back to the stealership since you installed the chip? If so, any ramifications? Please let me know! Thanks!

I do see this on the page: "E-Tronic can be disabled or removed at anytime allowing customers to keep factory warranty." http://esstuning.com/n57-258ps-us-spec-e-tronic-tuner/ |
