Sports displays in iDrive

Anyone actually use them?

Anyone think they are a bit out of place in a car like the 5-series?

They're a bit of fun. I don't use them, prefer to keep my eyes on the road but my son likes watching them.

I switched them on once and then straight off again, I couldn't see the point in them and preferred to see the map / iDrive info

I rarely use them. Interesting sometimes to know what power is being thrown out in various throttle, gear and load positions though.
Hand on heart, bit of a gimmick I think!

Is this an optional extra ? I dont seem to have it on my car. Its a 2013 F10 535d M Sport and it has all the modes Sport, Sport +, Comfort, Comfort +, Eco Pro. It also has adaptive drive if this has an affect ?

It's not an option, but I believe it came for the LCI so yours to old.

Cool, I like the sports display ! I might get that. My car is remapped, would it show the measurement up to the power or will it go off with scale ?

it would be more useful if the sport display showed some relevant engine info such as oil and water temperature or even gave us some additional simulated gauges, instead we've got a useless gimmick.

With you on this one, mind you I always liked BMW for having the oil temp dial rather than the water temp one in Audis and others, and glad to have the oil back with the f10 back after going missing with e60.

Agree, it would so useful to have a menu option to see the key data without having to go through the hidden menu. Data is all there, just a simple gauge like display would be good. Oil, water, voltage, etc.

I always feel that products get "dumbed" down and information hidden away as it may be felt that most people simply are not interested (probably true)
I supposed the software is designed so if there are readings outside of normal parameters, it will warn you, otherwise there is no need for you to know.

My 530D SE was built December 2013 - should it have this option? If so, where do I find it?

I'm pretty sure it was introduced with the LCI models

Your only option is to go the coding route. I'm sure I read that it was a bit hit and miss and only worked with some engines.

A quick google shows the values for CIC or NBT are:-
3000 EFF_DYN_SPORT_CID set to: aktiv

3000 EFF_DYN_SPORT_UNIT set to: aktiv

to change to Ibft and HP in KOMBI

3008 DREHMOMENT set to: lb_ft (displays ft lb)

3008 LEISTUNG set to: ps (displays hp)

I imagine even fewer people are interested in the 'sport display' yet BMW have deemed that to be of interest & value.

Could be worse. Some owners of other marques are subject to boost gauges and 2-axis g-meters. At least we are spared that.

...if you really must there is a g-meter available which displays on the iDrive screen via the BMW laptimer app...

For a 2013 you should be able to code this, I did check this with an independent BMW specialist that installs BMW original Sat Nav some time ago and it was down to cars produced from 2012 onward not sure the exact month, my one a 2011 so not an option.

I bought an app and Bluetooth dongle to check come codes on mine a few months ago.

Although gimmicky there are lots of customisable, real time screens you can add to the phone/tablet, I only used it a couple of times for my 0-60 for as laugh.
