Comfort Access Problems

Is anyone having problems with comfort access reliability?

I have a 2011 F11 520d, and the comfort access option worked well for almost 2 years. It was nice being able to keep the keys in my pocket when getting in and out of the car. In combination with keyless go, it's an elegant feature.

However, the rear paasenger stopped unlocking when you put your hand on the handle. It also wouldn't lock when you touch the ribbed part of the handle (those with comfort access will know what I mean). Then the front passenger door started playing up in a similar way.

I've taken the car into the dealership so it can be fixed. They say the part (a new door handle) is on back order so it has been 5 weeks since the car went in. Apparently the part is not readily available in the UK or Germany - and it needs to be painted before it's delivered.

5 weeks is a very long time to wait for any part. I have a loan car (120i M-Sport Coupe) which hepls but its no replacement for a 5 series!!

5 weeks is a long time. Why do they have to hang on to your car while the part is in transit?

I think your center screwed up. They should have given you your ride back whilst they wait for the part.

What I gathered when I spoke to them yesterday is that they took the door handle mechanisms apart to diagnose the problem. Then they found that putting it back together and giving the car back to me was not an option because the locks were no longer operative.

Of course, I'm not happy about the delay - especially since they were charging me £10 per day for the so caled "courtesy" car. Over 5 weeks, thats £350 or $560. I've arranged for them to waive the charge and also get me a bigger courtesy car (3 series or better).

Anyway, it looks like the comfort access malfunction isn't widespread, which is good news.

Well, my 2011 f02 developed the same problem. It was the right rear handle. It would open, but would not lock. It took them two days to get the part. But, after that it was fine.
